Yep, well, I did anyways.
Picked up a 24" LED LCD HDTV 1080P HDMI from BestBuy over the weekend.

Add a Foxconn AT-5570 NanoPC from Newegg.

The NanoPC requires RAM and a 2.5in 12.5mm or smaller laptop HDD / SSD.
I added a 4GB Gskill DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM 1.5v, and an OCZ Vertex2 50GB Refurb SSD I picked up.
Installed Win7 64-bit.
Need an HDMI cable too, MonoPrice stocks 1.5ft ones. (Using a 6ft one until my MP order comes in.)
Voila!
Performance of the NanoPC is alright. I figured out that if I close the tab in Waterfox that has my streaming radio, I can use Skype (additional webcam required for that). However, using both at once pushes the CPU to 100%, and I sound robotic on Skype.
Westinghouse 24" LED LCD HDTV 1080P HDMI $110
Foxconn AT-5570 NanoPC (Black) $130
4GB SO-DIMM DDR3-1333 $40
50GB REFURB OCZ Vertex2 SATA2 SSD $40
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit $100
1.5ft HDMI cable $5
Logitech MK270 wireless keyboard + mouse $20
total $445
Note that the current price of the NanoPC on Newegg is $30 more than I paid for it a few months ago.
Feel free to substitute various other mini-PCs and monitors. The basic idea, is to get both of them with VESA mounts and screw them together to make one unit, and use a wireless LAN and keyboard / mouse.
Here's a comparable 23" IPS LED LCD AIO, 4GB / 500GB, Win 8.1 64-bit, for $480 + tax:

Edit: Some other ideas for a DIY AIO:
Intel Celeron 1.1Ghz NUC ($150):
