Build the ultimate high end PCs locally?

I was thinking that I could design out a few (2-3) bleeding edge systems, one for gaming, one for home theater, and one that does both. Things that cost 4-5k in hardware and toss on another 2 for my labor, and advertise.

Even if I only sell one or two, that's profit! I see enough morons in H2s / riding spinnaz that it might work. I bet offering financing would be a wicked idea too, but I can't do that.

Thoughts?

holy god I wrote 'riding spinnaz' instead of 'with big retarded hubcaps on their cars'. Time to get off this internets thing.

$5000 per system....add $2000 for labor(BTW...rediculous) = $7000 per system(to buy)

You make 3 systems = 15000

You sell 2 = 14,000

You lose $1000 there is no profit unless you would sell all three

Why would they over pay you instead of over paying someone like alienware, falcon etc who offer support and financing?

Well, maybe the dream machines wouldn't be that high end. I might advertise them in the $2k-3k range and try to make 500 profit each.

The problems:

1) Marketing prescence/advertising

How can you compete with Alienware/Falcon Northwest/Voodoo? Your target market associates these with quality. It is extremely expensive to advertise anywhere besides online (not effective with no brand prescence)

2) Support

Willing to let your customers call your mobile 24/7 when they break Windows with a virus/trojan? Selling a $5k computer better have 24/7 support.

3) Design

Can you design the system, that is the case and components, to look as nice as the big vendors? Also customers would expect an OS install with full tweaks etc.

I think he's hoping to be able to sell to ppl who knows nothing about Alienware, Falcon, Voodoo, ect. Most ppl in my area only know of Dell, Gateway, Compaq, ect. I couldn't sell a $1000 PC in my area, even if it was a $3000 system 😀.
