You are given a budget of $5,000.00, which should be more than enough to make a fast PC.

The idea here is to build the best PC and stay under budget. The parts must be real and available on the Internet.
The PC will be used for Word Processing, Bookkeeping, Gaming, and regular Internet use.

Here is the list of parts.

1) Motherboard
2) Processor
3) Case
4) Power Supply
5) RAM
6) HardDrive
7) Floppy
8) DVD/CD Burner
9) Sound Card
10) Video Card
11) NIC
12) Thumb Drive
13) Operating System such as Windows, Linux or whatever your choice
14) Monitor
15) Printer
16) Keyboard
17) Mouse
18) Speakers
19) Fans or other cooling devices

The object here is to have fun and gain some knowledge about what others think the perfect PC is to them. So have fun!!

Well at least you don't try to bull sh*t us like others.

"Help, I have 2,500 to spend on a Computer!"
"Help, I have 2,501 to spend on a Computer!"
"Help, I have 2,501.50 to spend on a Computer!"
"Help, I have 2,502 to spend on a Computer!"

You get the point.

Pick up the next issue of Maximumpc. Their sept issue is always the current "dream machine" they do a great job of discussing every alternative while picking all the best parts for a 5k pc. You will enjoy the read. <<edited because i was cranky earlier this morning>>

Thanks.

Pentium 233 MMX, 4.3 GB Hard-drive, 64MB PC100 Ram, Voodoo 3 3000 video card

Man will that thing ever churn butter. Make sure you get MMX technology this will make a world of a difference

Really though if you got 5k, dont waste it. build a P4 3.0, 875 Chipset board, 1 GB Ram, Radeon 9800, Raptor, 1 200 GB for storage, a DVD-RW drive, a CDRW drive, wireless mouse and keyboard, and a copy of WinXP and then you can spend the other 2-3 thousand on doormatts and pastry units

Edit: don't forget a Antec Sonata or Lanboy case, a 21inch CRT Flat screen

and oh, send me $200 for my effort and I am poor and need money to feed my fish

I can understand people who are just flat out rich like Kobe Byrant or has a job that would require such a expensive system (like the makers of Jurassic Park and The Matrix). However people who say "I got a Christmas bonus" or "I'm asking daddy for a Christmas present" do not need to spend 5,000 on a PC. That is just a joke and is ideological at best.

You spend 5 grand to put a down payment on a new Maxima or some turbo charged Honda. Not on a damn computer. Top-of-the-Line PC's go for 2-3 grand anyway. If it wasn't for my KT333 mobo and 333 Mhz rated ram I would consider my 1,800 dollar PC to be top-o-line.
