PC Part Picker List

I already own a 1TB SSD which will host my OS and programs.

Here is a build I have been working on. I decided to go for the Ryzen rather than wait for the 8700K price/stock issues to settle down. Also, I'll be doing a little bit of everything (CAD, gaming).

My questions:
1. Should I wait a couple more months before building? I expect the 8700K price and stock levels should stabilize after the holidays. I'm assuming the same might be true later next year in the case of RAM as well?

2. Is a 4K IPS monitor a bad choice? Since I'm not a heavy gamer, and will be splitting time with CAD applications, I figured a monitor with a high refresh rate would be a waste. Should I downgrade to a 1080p monitor or even a 2560x1440 @ 60hz?

3. Assuming I stay with the current build specs, is the 650W PSU appropriate? Should I increase/decrease the wattage?

4. Any case recommendations in that range?

5. I have never had any drives in RAID. Would buying identical drives be advisable for that purpose?

Thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations.

If you are doing CAD I would recommend a 43" 4K display as that will allow you to be more productive since you would have more screen estate to work with.

If you want the 8700K you could always wait a bit, but I don't think I would wait. As for the ram, you're probably looking at a good 6-12 months before the prices have decreased in a meaningful way, although Samsung did recently say they were going to start ramping up dram production due to the shortage.

The smallest I would go with 4K is 32".

650W is plenty.

4. Any case recommendations in that range?

I like the case you've chosen, but I'm a bit of a Fractal fan.

5. I have never had any drives in RAID. Would buying identical drives be advisable for that purpose?

Yes.
