Build now or later?

Basically I am in now hurry to build now, but could, so what is the consensus on timing currently. My budget is around 800-1000ish. With the i5 coming soonish, new phenom II's getting released, SSD's getting cheaper and better, i7 boards really expensive currently....any thoughts? or does it really matter because things are always getting better and you could wait forever for the perfect "timing," Thanks!

what you gonna use it for? graphics? video editing? htpc? gaming? all-purpose? anything you already own which you would like to use with the new system? do you plan on having budget to do upgrades in the future or do you just build one and run it to the ground type of deal? your question on waiting, you can ALWAYS wait b/c while new chips are rolling out and they are already announcing Sandy Bridge (32nm) and AMD already claimed 16 cores so cant really say when that waiting would end. you can, however, figure out what you want to do w/ this build and find the exact spec you want then 'wait' until your budget meets the expense 🙂

that's pretty much it. you can always wait for something cheaper and faster, and you will rarely be disappointed. but if you've got close to a grand you should be able to buy a lot of machine.

the GPU market is still tumbling and there are some pretty fast and affordable phenoms right now, if you're in the 'oh noes lga775 is dead' camp (still plenty of life in it, really- i'm sure the fast quads will be dirt cheap in a year or two).
