Build my new box!!

Well, its dat time of year again. I generally try and buy a new PC every May/June and am looking for reccomendations on what to get.

3500-4000$ Budget
Primarily used for Gaming
Only need the box (have z680s and a 22" NEC Multisync)
Never been a big AMD guy but feel free to try and persuade me
Never been a big RAID guy (never tried it)

So, what should I be getting next month (or whenever the new GCards come around)

if your going to build a pc i would hope you can pick our your own parts :\

the combinations are infinate and your going to get 20 different opinions for each part...

If you're willing to spend that much then please wait, PCI-express comes out June 14th, you will want that if you're building a system from scratch.

Erm....just lookin for opinions. Of course I can build the thing on my own but there is a great chance someone could mention somethin that I havent thought of.......ya angry git!

Wow. That's a great way to get a reputation. He didn't say anything insulting. :disgust:

3400+
Asus K8V
1 gb mushkin 2-2-2
next gen video
2*36 gb raptors in raid
2*160 gb SATA for storage
audigy II

just because you have that kind of money to spend doesnt mean you should waste it you getting an FX53 or P4EE. spend $2000 on a kickass system, save the rest for the next system

Yeah....I have heard that the EE is a nice performer but 1000+ for a CPU...I dunno if I could bring myself to spend that.

Well, based on your stated budget, I was going to recommend dual Opteron 248's, but if spending $1000 on an EE goes against your sensibilities, then spending $2000+ on just CPU's and a motherboard prolly isn't going to set well with you, either. 🙂

I second this... Dual 248's would kill in anything. And the mobo would accept faster chips when they come out !

A- This is a gamein rig...arent Dual processor mainly for other stuff with very little benifit in games?
B- If I went the FX53 rout.......when are 64 bit Games even gonna be around?

Yes and no. You said primarily for gaming. Dual will do at least as good as their single clocked counterparts, and other things will fly. Also, when software evolves, duals will do more.

The way I see it, dive in with your budget and get dual 248's, or go with the Athlon64 3400+.

Other than that, the dual 74 gig raptors, and the 9800XT are a given.

For even more yumminess, the Opteron 250's (2.4ghz) are set to be released in June. Link

And doesn't Gigabyte make decent motherboards (I honestly don't know since I'm not to up on the different manufacturers)? This might be an interesting Opteron mobo when it is released.

Wow....so no one is pro Intel huh? Aight then. As far as the GCard goes I will prolly wait till the new ones come out...then pick Nvidia or ATI..whoever is faster.

Well, if you build a new system every year then I would say no reason to wait for socket 939 this summer. Socket 754 are getting better, just wait for nforce 250 coming out very soon and get a 3400+. As for graphics card, I don't know which of the new cards is better, guess we will have to see 🙂

No cyberathelets here 🙂 I just like having up to date stuff is all I suppose. And usually its between 3-3500 bux...this year I have some xtra cash to throw at it.

One last question....anyone know where I can find 2 matched stick of hella fast 1 gig a piece DDR? Newegg has a few but not with killer timings.

And thats not a bad idea...once I get real close to buyin, I'll try that.
