Build me the top of the line system!

A friend of mine has asked to build him a computer. He says he wants the fastest thing money can buy. I told him that it is only the best for a month if that. He says money is no object, I believe him, you should see this guys house. For the fastest I think a Intel box would be the best. I am much more experienced with AMD systems so can you guys help me out here. Build the fastest computer you can.

Oh don't worry about the monitor, or speakers.

ok i have no clue on cost but for a semi serious sorta top of the line rig not a 40g one....

Vapochill case, i have no idea what retailer sells it, but it is a sweet case and if i had the money, i would get one.

intel 3.06HT (w/ vapo, you can hit 4ghz but that might be a bit high on the volts)

corsair xms pc 3200 4x512

sb audigy 2 (i might get flamed for this but it is an excellent sc and i have had no problems with it)

sony DRU 500a dvd-rw drive with + and - capabilities

lite-on 52x cd-rw drive

ati 9700pro aiw

GigabSINXP1394

the new SATA hds coming out will suit the mobo nicely

mx700

whatever keyboard you want


a very nice monitor, i dont currently have a suggestion on that

yes, but on here ppl take top of the line to the extreme and we have no clue what it is to be used for so he built him a nice top of the line server for all of us to use as a file storage when he hooks it up and puts a lil backway into the computer from here

He is pretty computer illiterate so I don't thinks duals will do much except make it more expensive. I just talked to him and he said the to top he would pay is $6000.

agreed...your suggested setup pretty much has it all except monitor.

My beef with dual CPU rigs is 2X noise, 2X heat. A top of the line rig should also be quiet and cool running.

I'd skip the DVD burner as he probably won't use it and it's still rather young as far as the technology is concerned.

Antec TruPower 450 PSU

with this setup you'll likely be hitting over 4Ghz on the CPU and you can even watercool the Video and go far there as well. let's say you get it to 190Mhz FSB that means you can run dual channel DDR400 and your CPU at 3990Mhz or about 4Ghz watercooling will keep it all within spec temps.

REMOVE THAT MSI mobo as it has no options for the overclocker. I'd also change the mouse to something like Logitech MX700.

not BS I gurantee that that AMD dual rig would be mostly slower in every game than a 3.06Ghz P4 clocked up a bit.

Seriously, there isn't much use to a dual rig for games, other than maybe running the server on one CPU and playing on a second. He didn't say what it was for, and although my system was just a light-hearted joke, dual CPUs *do* have their advantages.

I agree with this guy. The buyer, as franz said, is computer illiterate so there is absolutely NO need for vapochill and the extreme cooling because he just doesnt need it.

Sink ~$3,000 into it and tell him to save the extra $3,000 to upgrade it along the way
