...try and figure out a set-up (only the comp) for around $600.00 shipped. I have the monitor, etc. I was wondering what I could get for that price, preferably AMD. I don't game, I do just the basic stuff with some PhotoShop here and there and the occasional DVD rip. So yah, try and put together a system for the set price and post what you can. Thanks!

Open Excel.

Load Pricematch.com.

It takes a few minutes and you'll get exactly what you want. :)

Can't PM. I'm over the limit. I really want to break the 1Ghz mark this upgrade. Last upgrade left me at 850MHz and it's getting to the time where I want to upgrade again. :)

Thunderbird is dirt-cheap. Go for 1.4 GHz. :)

ECS K7S5A - $60-ish?
2x 256MB Crucial PC2100 DDR - about $33 each
AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz (Thunderbird) - around $100
(anything else you need/want)

Ever considered Tyan Tiger MP and dual AMD setup? ;)

Haha. I might go with a dualie setup, depends how I feel at the moment. Right now, DDR isn't doing anything for me, so I'm staying away from it until there's proof it's better than SDRAM and it's worth upgrading to.

So yah, doesn't matter if it's either DDR or plain SDRAM.

I really want a nForce, but they're taking so freaking long to release any that I'm getting the upgrade jitters already. :)

What do you already have? Just a monitor? Got any spare RAM? Or anything else? Need more info. :)

I have a *decent* system right now...

But I have the "everyone else is upgrading and I should to" bug...

Here's my specs...

- MSI K7T Turbo (non-raid)
- AMD Duron 850MHz (non-oc'd)
- Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 40GB
- Hercules Prophet II GeForce2 MX (non-oc'd)
- Lite-On 12x10x32x cd-rw
- Pioneer 106 dvd drive
- 512MB Crucial PC133 Cas2
- 300-watt AMD psu

That's about it...

From Newegg.com

AMD Thunderbird 1.33GHz Retail - $113
ECS K7S5A - $65
Matrox G450 DH 32MB DDR - $88

From Crucial.com

256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM - $36

Your hard drive is pretty good. I picked the G450 because of its supreme image quality.
