Hey All,

I am buying a new Mobo/ram/cpu and was wondering if you all thought this was a good way to go... I have to stay under 250 dollars.

Mobo: EPoX nForce2 IGP Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "EP-8RGMI" -RETAIL $79
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ "Thoroughbred" 266 FSB, 256K Cache Processor - Retail $74
Ram: Crucial 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-2700 - OEM- 97

Any thoughts suggestions?

I'd love to, but its my Girlfriends comp so overclocking isn't really viable....

Basically, just for word processing, some other random girlfriend stuff.....

if thats it, dont even bother with 2700. get a cheap stick of 2100.

and i also suggest getting the original nforce chipset. get the asus one off newegg. its cheaper and your girlfriend will never notice any difference.

Price difference is only 6 bucks on NewEgg so I'll just chuck in the faster stuff....

Will these components work ok together?

i say go with the albatron kx600 motherboard for $60. its a great board and is very easy to use. then i say go wtih teh barton 2500+ for $80 and go with mushkin 512 ddr pc-3200 ram for $80. all these prices are from newegg.com. this will bring you a total of $220, whcih is perfect for tax, whcih should bring u to a total of $250

that 2700 will make the system slower than the 2100. it doesnt match the FSB of your cpu.

that mobo doesnt have onboard video, which would force him to buy a video card. get the orginal asus nforce. your girlfriend will be fine with the athlon 2400 and pc-2100. thats plenty fast.
