Quick back story. I purchased a ECS P4M900T-M v.1.0/Core2 Duo E6420 combo from Frys some time ago. After a couple months the motherboard crapped out. I RMAd the board and in the mean time bought a DFI blood iron to use the E6420 in.
When I got the ECS board back from RMA it sat in my closet cause I didn't have any use for it at the time.
Recently a friend wanted to upgrade his XP1700+ rig, so I bought a used Pentium D 820 and a couple gigs of DDR2 667.
Parts arrived today 2/19/2009. I put the CPU and 1 stick of ram in the motherboard hooked it up to a PSU on my test bench and tried to power it on. Nothing happened. The CPU fan wont even spin.
Next I tried installing the board in a spare case I have with a known good PSU and again same thing, no fans spin.
The only thing I can think of, besides having a dead board, is the PSU. Both PSUs have 20 pin connectors and the motherboard has a 24 pin. The manual has instructions for hooking up a 20 pin PSU, so I am guising this shouldn't be a problem, but I dunno.
sorry for the long post...can anyone think of anything to try to see if the board is getting power? or any other suggestions?
Also if it comes down to buying another board could someone recommend a board with onboard nVidia graphics that will work with a Pentium D.
thanks
edit: After hours of frustration problem solved. Turns out that the motherboard ECS sent back from RMA had no jumper on the clear CMOS pins which should be on pins 1 and 2 for normal operation according to the manual.
