Hello, I'm building a computer for my brother and would like to double check with other people here on whether or not this is a good build. It's going to be used mainly for gaming, at the 1680x1050 resolution range.
Here are the restrictions on it:
- The budget is about $1100 Canadian
- While I can go Intel, AMD does seem to be the better bang for the buck in this price range
- He wants 6 GB of RAM
- He wants a quad-core
- Parts are being bought in Canada
- The case has already been bought, he wanted the same one I have
- Will not be overclocking
- Shopping will be done at www.ncix.com, www.newegg.ca, www.canadacomputers.com, and www.infonec.com
- He already has a monitor, keyboard, etc., I'm only building the box.
Some questions:
- I have only built Intel system in the past and their stock heatsinks with the pushpins to hold them in are terrible. How do the AMD stock heatsinks fare and would it be recommended to buy a third party heatsink? If so, what kind of heatsink would be recommended?
- One area I am very much not sure about is the motherboard and RAM, any suggestions in those areas, in the same price range ($100~ish for the motherboard, $140ish for the RAM) would be appreciated.
