Build a HSF?

Im in a jewelry class at school (not as girly as you would think 🙂)

We use all silver for our projects and our teacher doesnt really care what we make.

So i was wondering if it would be worth it to try to build a hsf out of the silver (maybe in the style of the SK6 or better yet somehow use aluminum fins in it). Would this be worth the expense of the silver (it is fairly expensive) for any proformence gain i would get? Or would i be better off using the polishing machines to highly polish my SK6. Thanks for any opinions.

from what i've read, silver wouldn't give enough performance gains to warrant using it. Especially if you're paying for it. If it's free make 2, one for me too!! =)..ehhehe

Panthr710, silver isn't the ideal material to use. You'd be better off using the polishing machines to polish your SK6. Hope this helps.

That is what i thought, but i disagree that it isnt the ideal metal, it is the best conductor of heat and electricity of any metal. But i do agree that the cost would be preventative. I will probably just use some of the machines (like an ultrasonic smoother 😀) to get a true mirror-finish on the base. Thanks for the input.

True statement, but you don't want the lowest resistivity for this application. That is one good argument for copper, good conductor of heat, and high resistivity.

It is the best conductor of heat. However, I think what people are saying is that copper (sk-6 for example) doesn't fall too short of silver. Silver would conduct heat better but it would not be worth the cost. But hell, if you feel like making one, make one and post it on the net! I would like to see one.

Why would you want aluminum fins? Anyhow, you can buy silver water blocks, if you're interested.
