OK I have your solution, buy a core system from walmart, swap the case (that has the serial number on it) and return the broken one. Profit?!?!
You will forever muss up how your XBOX Live Arcade games and other content is registered if you do that. It'd be the same if you replaced your XBOX with an elite or something... you have to log into XBL just to use these in that case since you must either a) play them on the xbox they were bought on b) be logged into the XBL account that owns them.

It annoys me to no end that Microsoft hasn't fixed the apparent design flaw that causes this, and is still selling them.
Yep...I personally wont buy one until they do. You just cant sell a product that has a near 100% failure rate. (mine died after 2.5 months...yay for target 90 day return policy)
Never heard of Frets on Fire so I checked it out on Wikipedia and :Q. That is awesome! Is it any good?Originally posted by: TuxDave
Frets on Fire for the PC should hold you over. You can use the Xbox360 guitar on it too...

You can't say anything bad about the 360. It isn't the PS3! 🙁

What was the production date?
I heard '06 xboxs were ok while every '05 xbox is going to get the rings at some point or another.

Also, I would invest in the intercooler that attaches to the back of the xbox.
My 360 got the point where it was burning hot to the touch when I first got it. Now with the intercooler, touching the top of the xbox it feels like room temp. If i stick my hand behind the intercooler, I am amazed how hot the air is coming out of the back of the xbox.

It's too bad they feel it necessary to make it so hard to take the thing apart. I would love to move mine to a HTPC case with good cooling. At the very least I would like to add a small fan WITHOUT voiding my warranty.
I just don't understand the console makers, imagine if DELL made their PC's near impossible to open (easily) and put a "void if opened" sticker on them.

I just got the error code and it comes back as 0022 - GPU error/overheating

I followed the directions for the secondary error.
Actually, Microsoft did right by the 360 by extending the warranty. It was originally 90 days, but all these consoles started breaking. After about 6-8 months, they announced that any consoles purchased before January of 06 would have their warranties extended to a year, and anybody that paid for service would get a full refund.Originally posted by: rml
game console always breaks the day after warranty expires. warranty period is getting shorter and shorter as well. When will they start selling console brand new but sold "AS- IS"?
