Buget Case and Cooling

Hi All,

I'm planning on building a PC that I will probably OC once I learn more about the subject. With the following specs:
E6600
Asus 650i mobo
8800 GTS
2GB DDR2 800

I want to be able to use the full capabilities of my ram so I will need to OC FSB to around 400. So what is the cheapest combo of case, cooling and PSU that I could get? I know the E6600 comes with a heatsink, but is it good enough for OCing? I also want something that is quiet or not noticeably loud.

Theres noway one can "gaurentee" a certain clock. Well, besides a X2 going to 2.4ghz I havent heard of an X2 that couldnt do 2.4ghz

But i would get something that fits your case. You havent told us what case you have, and some HSF's are very restricted due to its large size. If you have a large case, id suggest something around the range of a tt big typhoon, scythe ninja, tuniq tower, zalman cps9700, or even the artic freezer7 pro, if you can find it.

There is defiantly no way I can grantee a clock speed. I barely know what OCing is all about. But I did see on a forum a database spreadsheet that showed the E6600 reaching speeds of up to and over 3.6. Not sure I could do it.

With regards to a case, I don?t have one. That is what I?m asking advice for. I need a cheap combination of cooling, case and PSU that is relatively quiet. I would perffer a mid tower case

cheap + good OC doesnt exist in the same sentence op.

You want good OC, you need good PSU, good board, good ram, good cpu. Having 4 goods in row like that means it gets pricey.

Some people, like me, will purposely get a lower cpu to drop into a expensive high performance cooling, just to see how far we can push it.

So anyhow lets start with the basics.

1. Get a good PSU. Worry about the case later, because the PSU will be the main component you need to buy to get decient OC.

Corsiar 500 or 620W is what i would recomend since u have a 8800GTS

Case: anything that fits your bling. Make sure it uses 120mm fans for exhaust and preferably intake. 120mm fans have the best price to performance to quiet ratio.

Cooling: Depending on the case you buy, if you go large tower, id get the ones i originally recomended. Operandi would be better to consult you on this manner tho.


But work on a GOOD PSU, and not CHEAP PSU. You'll thank me when you dont run into a brick wall overclocking because your PSU couldnt push out.

Rosewill R5601/5604 that I recommend many times a week. Mod the side panel with one of those Antec Big Boy fans (or a handful of smaller, cheaper ones) - done.
