No that means they have already done the cost analysis on what they could/would sell the Athlon systems for. I bet they are making the same money on both the setups.

They make far more money on the AMD for that price if you look at raw profit margin of comparable capability. Lets say they make $150 off the AMD Athlon and $200 of the Intel P!!!. The 1GHz AMD chips are on the market for $70-80 less than the Intel P!!! 1GHz. That means Dell is looking at pocketing $20-30 more using the AMD parts. That would be a windfall of money for such a large company.

I was wondering the same thing about question 6. There's a bigger price discrepancy than $50 for similar configured computers between AMD and Intel.

I wonder if Intel and Dell's relationship is better than AMD's and Dell. AKA is Intell giving them such a good price on CPU's that there really only would be a $50 diff between systems.

of course, this doesn't take into account the fact that people who buy expensive Dell computers think that whats in their computer is the best thing out there.

proof? at the school I go to, a few kids paid a premium for Rambus RIMMS. and because they spent more money on it, they figured it must have been better than what i was using.

i was the only kid in my dorm last year with a non-dell tower. except for laptop users, every single kid had a dell box. and they spent waaaaay too much $$$ for it.

I can't imagine that they are even still considering that a valid survey any more. It's just a bunch of Intel fans voting Intel, and a bunch of AMD fans voting AMD. 99% of which would never buy a Dell anyway.

Well, considering that those people are the target demographic... I imagine those results would be accurate for what Dell is looking for.
