Select an entire column by hitting the letter for it... right-click --> Format Cells... --> select Currency and hit ok.

Now enter a number and you expect it to be in currency format (with a $ sign). But for me, it is simply a number. You can go into format cells again and you'll see that it's selected Number instead of Currency.

If you select Currency again, this problem goes away and it's all $'s now. Happens to me all the time, so it's not like it's a freak accident that I formatted to Number by mistake.

Just tried it on Excel in Office 2003; worked correctly for me. I have Office XP at work and will try it there tomorrow.

I'm using excel XP SP2, not a problem for me. Maybe your install is screwed ;)

Not a problem for me either. When you select currency, look at the drag down menu to the right called "Symbol" and make sure the $ sign is selected there. You might have "none" selected by default, so when you type in a number there isn't the dollar sign.

hmmm... no longer bugging out for me... as I just tried it again. :|

I swear it's happened over the course of the last few months with different new .xls i've created. I must be getting old.
