Bufferunderruns

My question is that I keep getting a bufferunderrun error when I burn faster than 6X. I have some experience with computers, but this is the first I built. Here are the specs:
Motherboard: MSI K7 Master
Ram: 512 DDR
Sound Card: Turtle Beach
Video Card: Radeon 64mb
CPU: T-Bird Athlon 1.333ghz running at 1.350ghz
Burner: 12 X Sony cdrw
DVD: 12 X Sony DVD

Not sure if I need to change a jumper or if somewhere I just change a setting.
Thanks In Advance.

You don't specify which Sony model does it have "burnproof" of some kind? Try also to set the burn to "copy to hard drive" temporary folder.

Try not using the PC while burning and see if that fixes it. A 12x burner should burn quickly enough you can take a break from the PC.

MrBond , thank you forgot to say Control Alt Delete any unnecessary running programs( never CtrlAltDel Explorer or Systray if possible) especially AntiVirus programs and try not to be online also as some software(AOL) fubars the burn too.

The burner I have is a Sony CRX160E Internal EIDE.
I don't use the pc when I'm burning and the only extra thing I have running when I burn is Norton Anti-Virus.
Should I try closing the anti-virus when I burn?
