Buffer Underrun Problems with Easy CD Creator 5

Hi, I have Easy CD Creator 5.0 with the latest update and it's the platinum edition. Problem is that my plextor is always having problems trying to burn a CD and that problem is that it says that a buffer underrun has occurred even though I have the Plexwriter 48x/24x/48x with BurnProof technology. I remember a long time ago when I had this problem taht I had to go to the registry and change some values because I have Nero installed as well, but I forgot how to do that, or if that's the problem. Please let me know what the problem is. I can't even update my firmware to the latest version for some reason either.

Auto insert notification usually is needed for ODD to ODD on the fly burning. Check that DMA is enabled for both the Plextor and the HDD in Device Manager--->IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers--->Primary/Secondary IDE Channels.

I checked device manager and both of the IDE channels are set to mode "DMA if available" The only other option is "PIO only" so it seems like those are correct, any other suggestions?

Any apps running in the background? Do you have any other burning software installed? Overclocking? (system might be unstable)

Are the from > to drives on separate channels? Is there enough scratch file space in the temp directory that roxio is pointed to?

The drives are in separate channels, and there should be enough space in the temp directory that it is pointed to, since my hard drive is 120gb and I have only used about 40-50 gb of it, I do have Nero installed, which may be the problem, and I don't know how to fix it, and I have downloaded all the latest patches for EZ CD Creator, another program I have is norton antivirus which I do not disable, maybe that's the problem? But i've never had a problem with norton running before, so I don't think that's the case. Any other suggestions?

I usually shut off av software when installing any apps or drivers. Some people have had issues running two burning apps at once.

I believe that Nero and Roxio don't play well together. Ahead has a utility that would allow Win9x users to choose which will run at boot time, but I don't think they have anything similar for W2k or XP.
You can install two instances of XP install one in each and decide which to boot with a multi OS boot loader. Perhaps it could be resolved by uninstalling both and reinstalling while making sure that no part of either gets loaded at boot time.
Then you could manually startup whichever you want to use, but that defeats some of the useful features of Roxio. In the meantime, you may need to uninstall both and then reinstall just the one you can't live without.

You may want to goto Roxio or Adaptec's site and download aspi.exe. Run this file and it repair the aspi layer this some times gets messed up and causes buffer underuns.

Alright, I basically uninstalled Nero and Roxio, checked the aspi layer, and reinstalled Roxio again. The thing is, is that I can't even burn right now, for instance, if I go to make an MP3 cd, it gets to the part where it's writing the table of contents and then it doesn't do anything. My plextor is idle, and I have no idea what's going on. I'm leaning towards having something wrong with the drive itself, and not the software, because I also tried to upgrade the firmware to 1.04 and it wouldn't let me do it, it game me an error. I can't believe I bought this drive that's made in japan and thinking that it's the most reliable thing on my computer when I could have just purchased a cheap lite-on drive. Oh wells, I know plextors are good, but I wish I didn't have this problem. Any solutions guys?
