Buffer underrun issues with new (to me) iPod?

I had a 60gb ipod classic (5th gen?) that got stolen out of my car. I replaced it with a used 160gb ipod classic (6th gen?). However, the new ipod seems to have problems playing large file sizes while my old one did not.

Occasionally songs will cut out for about a second or two then resume playing as usual. I initially though the hard drive on the 160gb ipod was failing but after doing some google searching it seems like it might be a buffer underrun issue, where the file is too large to fit in the buffer so the pause is it retrieving the rest off the hard drive.

I find this odd as I never had any issues with my 60gb ipod. Additionally, the people who were reporting problems were using large lossless files, while I'm using 320kbps MP3s. Granted, some of the files are still over 10mb, but I would have thought the ipod could handle that.

Is it possible that my old ipod had better hardware specs, or is something else going on?

Maybe something else is going on, i mean, how would it handle podcasts if that was a problem?

Actually, do you have any podcasts or larger AAC files that you could test?

It's used. I actually got it with a bad logic board which I replaced.

Is the Reallocs areas of the drive that were replaced with bad sectors? If so, that drive is probably on it's way out.

No, they were bad sectors that were replaced with spare sectors. That is normal. I was reading that someone with a failing drive had over 10000 reallocated sectors.
