about 2 months ago, my plextor 708a dvd burner's buffer started jumping up and down during a burn for some reason. this causes the burner to burn dvds/cds very slow and i cant explain why its happening. i tried updating the firmware to 3.06 and it worked but now it has started doing it again. also everything on the comp starts to slow down(the mouse cursor, opening up ie, audio gets choppy). i tried reflashing it again with the same firmware and it didnt help. all i have running in the tray is the nforce sound control and ati display settings icon. anyone else recommend me something else to try?

thanks

You might try checking to see if DMA is enabled for your devices.
Make sure all cabling is tight.

If it does that again, try a new flat 80-wire IDE cable to see if it's a cable problem.
