I think your planned config. is the "sweet spot" given current prices. Your 2.6C w/BH-5's should get you to about 3Ghz at 1:1 or about 3.4Ghz at 5:4. (all while maintaining tight timings).

That is a bit optimistic. I am sure it is possible but "should" is not the word I would use.
One SHOULD expect more like 215-220 with 2-3-2-6 or with a relaxed settings 2-2-2-6. Anything over 220 depends very much on the particular sticks. 512 stick do not overclock as high as 256 though Buffalo just might be the exception.
Anyway, Buffalo will be OK for P4C800.

I swear people never read the entire thread anymore. It is PC3700 with BH-5 chips.
The replies look accurate in regard to the type of ram being used. Buffalo and BH5 were mentioned. I'm curious to see how this BH5 performs compared to other BH5 based. 215 - 220 with good timings is in the ballpark.

I am sorry but PC 3700 runs at DDR433 which is 216 right there. So for you to continue saying that 215-220 is the most you can get out of BH-5 is just rediculous. It should be easy to get 235-240 out of these chips with a balpark of 2,3,3,7 timings and 2.8v.

actually, pc3700 is ddr466

pc3200 = ddr400
pc3500 = ddr433
pc3700 = ddr466
pc4000 = ddr500

k thanks!

Excuse me you are right. I had 3500 and 3700 mixed up. So Even better that is 233 so the max you should be albe to get is about 250 on tight timings. This ram is perfect for P4 overclocking unless you want more than 250fsb which is huge. 25% overclock is a really good overclock.

I just got some BH-5 Buffalo PC3700 ram from newegg.
I'm having mixed results .. it will do up the 210 at 2-2-2-5 1:1 with f1 setting on my IS7 It will work at 210 5:4 ratio too but of course f1 is irrelevant.
Can get it to 215ish at loose timing.. 2.5-3-3-7

I can't get it to 220 1:1 or 5:4 no matter how much i relax the timings. not even 3-4-4-8
Also, cpu-z is reporting this ram as pc2700, even when the clock says 200... What gives?

Have this ram at max vidmm of 2.8 on the is7.

Anyways, should i keep or rma this ram since it won't do the rated 233 at 1:1

If it doesn't say winbond and the last letters aren't bh5 then it's not winbond bh5. You should be able to read it right off the chip.

Time for rma

Are we sure about this?........I think mine might have also reported 2700...but Im not sure, my ASUS P800 boots up so fast before I can even read the speed of the CPU and RAM....is there anyway to slow down the bootup screen to see what is loading up???

thanks...Im a bit nervous about this Buffalo Ram now

at top of this page there are two programs you can download called

aida32 or cpuz

both of these programs will tell you what ram you have

on aida32

click on motherboard then SPD

it should tell you want the Highest CAS Latency is

i have pc3700 and it says 2.5 (4.3 ns @ 232 MHz)

yours should say something like this if your ram realy is pc3700

Thanks for the tip Shimmish.....Guys I got some info from the actual chip itself. Can anyone tell me what this means?

On the chips it reads this:

0326

MT 1-2

TG 46v32M8

-5B C

s/n 431030

and on one of the stickers on the chip it says

PC3700u-30330-B1

512MB 466mhz-CL3

Should i RMA this or should i jst keep it ??.....My goal is to basically overclock my P2.6 to about 3.2 or higher. I know Im probablly not going to be able to do a 1/1 but if I can do a 5/4 with tight timings, I would be happy.......Would this allow me that? I payed $93 per chip at Newegg but I'm a little mad because the actual link of the RAM I ordered on their page stated WINBOND BH-5. I really dont care if its good ram but If it's not I would like to know what route you all think I should take if I want to get tight timings with a 5/4 setup....do I even need PC3700 to do this?

thanks if anyone can help out

Actually I called the Buffalo tech and he said that this RAM above should be fine for the Pentium 4 chips......He said the advantage of the BH-5 chips were more beneficial to AMD users who would thrive more off of TIGHTER timings over higher FSB speeds. He said these chips should give you looser timings but should be able to work more stable at higher BUS speeds especially with the 875 chipsets....

Anyone care to comment on this???

Since you have the ram, why don't you just try those settings and see if it works for you.

This Micron chips are good for 3-3-3-7 at 217, that is PC 3700 at CAS 3. As said, It runs 2.5-3-3-7 at about 215, maybe a little more. Not even close to Winbond BH-5 or CH-5.

When they says it's rated pc3700.. shouldn't it run at the rated 233 fsb at loose timings?

Does pc 3700= ddr 466 = 233 fsb ??

Hey Shimmish....something WIERD in AIDA32...I followed your exact instructions to get INFO on my RAM and it loads the window with the description and speed...but it doesnt return ANY info at all......As if it just couldnt read my RAM or something. Is this cause I have it overclocked?

Yeah, I will. Its a load of BS. P4 systems like tight timings too (quite a bit). BH5 chips are hard to get now, and are probably the best ram to date.
