BUFFALO Firestix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory.....$163.99 + $4.99 shipping at Newegg. Uses Micron D9GMH chips. Good memory if the DDR21000 is out of stock in the other sale thread.

See it here.

In Stock??? OOS???? They're flipping in and out of stock so fast.....best bet is just check their status by clicking on the link above and see yourself....best I can tell you now. I've tried to keep up but it moves so fast I give up. :p

If the RAM is listed as OOS and has an ETA....remember, the ETA is just an estimate. Cannot put a lot of faith into it. On the other hand, no matter if the product is listed OOS, Newegg seems to get bits of stock in well before the ETA date. But you have to pay attention to the page to catch one of these minor restockings.

Second, put NO FAITH into the atuo-notification email system. I've tried it and almost invariably when I've received the email, it's already out of stock. Instead, if I really want the item, I'll keep a page open to it and refresh it a few times a day. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. Read through this thread and you'll see people who managed to catch one of Newegg's minor restockings of this item and purchase it....well before the prior ETA, which was today, 2/26.

Third, good luck catching it! It's great RAM at an awesome price!

Edited for price drop.

True, that's a great deal on that kit.......too bad it's out of stock right now with no firm date of delivery.

And it seems the price on the DDR2 800 kit has DROPPED $10 to $189.99 now.

you linked the 1G Bkit.

the 2GB kit is here
http://www.shopatbuffalotech.com/cart/product.php?productid=16422&cat=0&page=1

thats why I said "get 2" of those which still equals 2gig total - but in hindsight I should have specified was 4dimms total and you must have 4 DDR2 slots for all 4 dimms. I updated my initial post. Sorry for any confusion.

ps- nice to see newegg prices dropping like flies too ;)

This RAM is now shipping with Elpida AG-6E-E, not Micron.

The PC-6400 or PC-8000?

Where'd you see that? I've only seen a case of someone getting Elpida at a Microcenter. Everyone else has gotten GMH.

Funny, this exact RAM I just got delivered YESTERDAY from Newegg has Micron D9GMH chips on it, not the Elpida chips. (I pulled one of the heat spreaders off and checked...so there!!)

As was said before, the only place that seems to be shipping sticks with Elpida chips is MicroCenter.......so far, without exception, Newegg's sticks of this RAM have always had D9's on them.

And since the price has risen to $280 + shipping on Buffalo's website for the PC@ 8000's, and they continue to be not in stock, this deal seems to be the best bang for the buck for memory now.

They should......the 965 chipset seems to like the Micron D9GMH chipped memory. Some boards did have problems with that chip, but not the Asus line......think it was the Gigabyte line of 965's, if memory serves correctly.

Damn I already ordered this before I knew about the coupon. And my brother got one too. Thats $20 we each could have saved by waiting a couple of days. :frown:

As for removing the heat spreaders......it was very easy and non-traumatic. While I've heard of some memory makers using permanent type glue on their spreaders, Buffalo is using double-sided thermal tape that is seemingly not permanent.

I just unclipped the spreaders' clips and worked my thumbnail under one spreader's edge, slowly lifting it up. Took my time and it came off very cleanly. Almost seems like it either wasn't very firmly attached or uses heat to activate some strength, because when the spreader popped off, it came cleanly not leaving any traces of tape on the chips.

Took a look at them, copied the markings, and reapplied the spreader onto the RAM, put the clips back in place, then installed them. Working fine. No incidents.

Don't know of any other way to find out if you get Micron chips.

Why not try an online chat with a Newegg CSR? Kind of the same thing happened to me.....I ordered this Buffalo RAM when it was $229 (was still the cheapest Micron D9 RAM around!) and the price dropped $40 less than 48 hours after I ordered it, and it was still a day from being delivered.

Online CSR couldn't price adjust but did give me $40 off my next order. And the $40 did go through on my next order (had to call a CSR on the phone, but took all of one minute and was no question at all.....great experience!)

Worth a try....all it can waste is a little time.

Ok, you guys got me. I was planning on delaying my upgade for another month or two but I couldn't resist getting the Micron for these prices. Now I just have to buy the rest of the system. Is the Gigabyte board out of the question with this memory? Because that is the one I was planning on getting.
