RIO can be dangerous if you look like a beloved patriot.

arguable because Brazilian beef is not allowed to be imported to this country so it has never been fairly put to the test. And brazilian bbq aka 'churrasco' is world famous.
Rio is filled with all the classists.

Plus churrasco's origin is portuguese not spanish. Looking up portuguese words in an english dictionary = fail.

Well...they must have been oblivious. The groups of thugs are obvious. When i was there they started off about 100 yards away just hanging out on the beach. 30 minutes later it was 75 yards 10 minutes later 50.....10 minutes later 25. We get up and leave.

I've only been to Buenos Aires so I can't compare but I can tell you that the city is big and bustling, the women are beautiful and the food was amazing (especially the beef).
Ive been to Sau Paulo, and Rio...not Buenos Aires.
I'll compare the two I've been to.
Paulo...HUGe..OMFG HUGE...REALLY FUCKING HUGE! Lots of stuff too do, but its so huge that it feels daunting, and because its not safe, its just seems like a bad idea to go wander and figure it out.
Rio. The nice parts of town are NICE, and the beaches are really great. The pollution that you get in Paulo, is in Rio too, it just doesn't seem like it cause its smaller and next to the water. That being said, the slums on the other side of the place are horrible. And yes.YOU WILL get robbed if you carry good stuff with you on the beach.
It tis sad about Brazil. Such a great country. So many people are soooo nice there and the girls are amazing. They have soo much land, so many resources, such good culture, they could be huge....but nooo, their government is so corrupt that things will take forever to change, if ever.

I would trust the firsthand opinion of someone who lives there over someone who has only visited. Granted it does not answer the question of Rio vs. Buenos, but it does give the OP another option within one of the countries menitoned.
