Normally I would say this is bullshit and hope it isn't allowed, but beer is one of those things that's taken off with so many smaller players that I don't think it really matters as much here. There's enough competition that I don't know if it's as big of a deal as with other markets.

Also, what does this mean for MillerCoors? That's technically a joint venture, which is a separate entity from Miller and Coors which are still independently run companies.

Wrong...just, so, so wrong.

Not wrong in the least, you're just too stupid to notice.

Already fooled a couple here with Goose Island, what else do you drink when you go out and have a beer?

Unless it's SPECIFICALLY a bar that specializes in having multiple beers, you most likely are drinking from a macro brewer-owned beer - because plenty of places specifically have contracts to only carry macro beers.

Not really cool to call him stupid about his opinion. Most craft brew fans already know Goose Island sold out anyways...probably were forced to by corrupt Chicago politics, but I can only assume that.

It is not the least bit difficult for me to find and drink local craft beer and tons of different non-local and non-sold-out craft beer. (Since I am near the west coast it is even more ubiquitous here) And I suspect thats the case all over the place. You just have to know what you're looking for, and a lot of us do.

However I do understand your point...and that point is most people do not know the difference.

I wouldn't specifically considered myself "fooled" since I haven't bought any Goose Island in... three years? More?
At any rate, any place I go where I'm likely to order beer on tap, they all seem to at least have Lucky Bucket, Nebraska Brewing Company, Empyrean, or Boulevard as an option.

Boulevard actually got bought out too. They are owned by the Belgian company that makes Duvel. At least if you get bought out, it's by a company that makes interesting beers. :p

My favorite Boulevards are their belgians anyway!

Hmm, let's see:

Karbach
St. Arnold
B52
8th Wonder
Ska
Jester King
No Label
Southern Star
Southern Tier
Left Hand
Dogfish Head
Buffalo Bayou
Lone Pint

Just to name a handful of my regular rotation, which are in fact microbrews...you condescending ass.

On one hand I really don't care because I rarely drink something from either of those companies. On the other hand, it's all the more power they now hold and leverage they control in the industry. That is not a good thing.

The only thing I can say is - buy local brews and support your local economies. There's a lot of very good beer out there with some incredibly interesting and good hearted owners making it.

Might end up with a net reduction in lobbying.

Company A pays .5M
Company B pays .7M

Company A+B pays .8M, it's unlikely they would pay 1.2M. After all the controlling company wasn't paying anywhere near that before. It's unlikely they would double their lobbying budget just because of the merger.

Also, that combined 1.2M split between the 2 original companies were still going for the same thing even though it's different companies. Same interests.

I can wish, right? :p

He sounds like someone that has been fooled many times by the likes of Shock Top, Third Shift, Blue Moon, etc.

Pro-tip, if you see a nationwide commercial for a beer chances are it's not a craft/microbrew.

I was once in that camp, but as the saying goes, I once was lost but now am found :awe:

There are a handful of out-of-state breweries in my short list, but the Texas craft beer game has been VERY strong over the last few years to the point where I hardly drink anything but local.

Those kind of contracts are illegal here. But double down on being an asshat.

I briefly worked for InBEV right after they bought AB. A bunch of dickwads. Worse company I ever had the displeasure to work for. All those billions actually went to the last Busch asshole. He was such an asshole. He once tripped on a lawn after coming out of his helicopter at the St louis headquarters and immediately spent millions to have the lawn ripped up and cemented flat by the next morning. True story.

For years, I didn't like beer- I thought it tasted like watery bitter blah. Then I tasted a good beer from a local brewer and found out I DO like beer, just not Budweiser or Miller.

I think a lot of people are like this and that's why Bud is hurting. If you want to try a real beer, try this stuff:

True. Oddly though, when I worked for Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) I had to travel to germany a lot. And the first time I went to munich, IMO the beer capital of the world, my German colleagues LOVED budweisser. I found it very odd being they are from munich where the worst beer there is 1000000x better than bud. Go figure.

Where do you get that from?

Why do you think places either carry PEPSI or COKE products, but never both?
Because it's not at all likely that beer sales in bars is regulated in a completely different manner than coke sales.

There's a lot to criticize about the three tier system but it has done a good job of keeping major brewers from setting up exclusive contracts with retail.

Please show me this... national law (or state law in all 50 states) that says Budweiser (InBev AB) can't make a contract with a sporting arena to ONLY carry AB products. Please, do tell :colbert:

Newsflash. Bobs bar does not sign a contract with InBev to get beer. They sign it with a distributior who can get whatever they want.
Bob can ask for pisswater or good beer. Distributior gets said beer. Contract not found. Plenty of places have bud and miller on tap.

That satement above is so full of incorect info its insane. Goose island 100% sold out. Out of big regional guys, i can only think of a handful that have sold out, and some not to the evil giants.

Thats advertising and rights. You were talking about bars before. You are not comparing apples to apples.
