Supposedly, for this weekend, Budweiser started some $5/20pack promotion, so the other two main American beer companies matched it. I walked out of Kash n' Karry with six 18-packs of Coors Light cans for $4.49 each after using the $5 off, and $1 off coupons on each of them. That's like 24 cents per beer! That rivals the price advantage you get with a keg.

It's YMMV because I dunno what all cities have the promotion.. I only know that Jacksonville and Gainesville, FL have them. Some stores (Publix confirmed) have a 2-pack/person limit. Kash n' Karry has no limit.

BTW, if you have the typical beer-snob comment about American beer, go to hell please. This thread hasn't invited you.

EDIT: After I researched this on Foowallet, it looks like Miller Light started it. This deal seems to apply to Texas and Florida - maybe because of Hurricane Katrina.

I got an 18 pack of Bud Light last night for $7.00

I'm here in South Carlina and I bought an 18 pack of Coors yesterday and got the $5 off and $1 off coupons at Publix.

(I subsequently gave that $6 dollars back to the Katrina relief fund) :)

My Publix (Tallahassee Mahan) only had Bud light bottles $4.99 after coupons. The $5 coupon said valid in FL only. Fine with me.

Thats people who drink 5 cans from an aluminum bottle every day for a long period time (like years). Drinking 1 can a day doesnt do anything. You know theres aluminum in every antiperspirant you use as well... you better stop sweating I guess! :)

Too bad this isn't available in NY. I don't drink alcohol, but a lot of people in my family do. :)

They don't even bother to run deals like this in Chicago because after the 14% excise tax you don't really save anything anyway..... :p

Just kidding.

$4.99/20 just south of Tampa Bay. Looks like just about every place that sells beer is in on the deal -- except Wally World.

So beer is now the same price as Pepsi and Coke -- and Pepsi and Coke are still more expensive than gas.

I heard a theory for beer deals in FL & TX. Shipments that were originally destined for the New Orleans area are sitting on trucks and in warehouses. Between the distributors and the retailers, something had to be done so offer deep discounts in surrounding states where it wouldn't have to be shipped too far. So this is really a result of Katrina.

Any takers?

That is the explanation my husband suggested. Sounds reasonable to me.

Then why has the beer not gotten cheaper for the rest of Louisiana?
