Seriously? Is this with *everything* maxed out, including using HDR, full AA and full AF? I usually dip to around 30 in huge firefights in open areas with my rig listed below.

I am running TF2 on two comps. The first one has a 7800gt (1440x900) and the second has an 8600gt (1680x1020). All settings are maxxed out AA and AF (idk if they are maxed out as well but they are running) the game runs smooth.

Are you sure that rig has a PCIe slot? It seems like it'd be old enough to be an AGP box -- which might limit your graphics choices quite a bit. 9600GTs also seem to not like PCIe 1.0 very much either.

Edit: The 7600GS was not much slower than a 7600GT at low res. Which means it's still within 10-20% of a 8600GT or 2600XT. You'll have to make the step up to at least a 3850/9600GT/8800GS to see a dramatic improvement in performance.

I'm going to try the mat_queue_mode 2 on mine and hers tonight I'll let you guys know if it works on the D.

@v8envy- Yeah I built it not long ago out of old parts I had laying around. Its got a new motherboard in it with PCIe though. Its a BIOSTAR G965 Micro 775.

Dude I play TF2 with a x2 at 2 ghz and a x800gto (4 yrs old?) at maxed settings, 1440x900 with 2x aa 4x af and the game is smooth as butter. You shouldn't have to spend more than 50 bucks for a card to play that game.
