Budget PSU

I'm trying to find a PSU that I can rely on for perhaps a year or longer. However my dilemma is that I have no case and no PSU yet but only about $65 left to spend.

The equipment I'm using is as follows
1 x1900GT
DVD-RW
1GB (512 x 2) pc26400
1 Sata HD (7200.10)
64 X2 4200+ EE(65w)
MSI K9A
120mm fan
2 80mm
Tuniq Tower

I was thinking of perhaps finding a really cheap case that included an el cheapo PSU and then trying for a Thermaltake dedicated graphic card PSU.

Seriously, if you can afford those parts please do not skimp on a case & psu. FWIW a quality 350w psu will power your rig without breaking a sweat.

That's only got 23 amps on the 12v though =\ Doesn't than get close to starving the x1900? But is cheap enough that I could splurge on a dedicated video card PSU.

I'll look into that, looks like enough amperage according to ATI's recommended 25amps. To afford a better PSU (I know, the most important component to any good system 🙁 ) I'd have to build another computer for someone. And I've covered most of the people I know or have met already.

And I only actually have half of the items on hand or ordered. Everything upto to this point was purchased at a discount, open box, etc.

Well if that isn't a kick in the rump. When it comes to my own rigs I'll end up spending 3 months on research alone. All the locals here are just old farts who want word processing and email. Rather terrible actually.. Highest population % of retirees in all of Florida.

Perhaps you'd feel inclined to teach me the error of my ways then, rather than throwing me off my groove, eh?

On one hand you say you "know"... but then try and go "el cheapo"

My el cheapo case/PS combo @ $35 shipped + TT dedicated PS @ $50 shipped = $85 total.
Your numbers don't add up to coming in anywhere close to $65 shipped :roll:

Don't waste money on the TT unit, just buy quality from the start.

Gotcha.
I've got enough broken HPs and Dells lying around that I can forget about a case until later. So my focus becomes a PSU with 30A or more for future upgrade that is under $65 before shipping. I should be able to find money for shipping in the couch cushion XD
