Budget laptop advice needed.

My mum has an old Dell Inspiron 6400 which is starting to show its age, she used to just send emails and use the internet so it didn't need to much ooomph. Recently she has bought an HD camera to shoot videos on but the laptops not able to play HD video, also the battery life on that thing was always utter shite so it's time for an upgrade.

Can anyone give me some recommendations for a budget laptop (£350 ish) that has decent battery life, can play HD vids comfortably and has approx a 15 inch screen?

I swapped her Dell HDD for an SSD to help battery life so I can pop that into the new one if I have to.

Any help is appreciated.

If this were the US, I'd say buy a retired Ivybridge/Haswell business laptop.

Apparently Dell Outlet is also available in the UK. Note that the inventory changes constantly. Right now, I see an Inspiron 15-3542 with an i3-4005U/4GB for £240 (ex VAT) with an additional 15% discount. I'd probably go for at least a 5000 series, though. Screen is pretty crappy at 768p. I'm guessing you can get an Inspiron 15-5558 with a Core i5/4 or 8GB for your budget.

An outlet is the manufacturer's "store" that sells to the public without going through a retail middle source. Refurbs (refurbished units) are most often returned items that have undergone complete inspection, repair, and testing. They can offer good value in that they normally are 100% tested whereas new items may only be lot tested. Yes, there is a Dell outlet in the UK. Just Google Dell Outlet UK.
