I just recently upgraded (in November) to a 7900 GS...I suppose I'll just have to save up until sometime late next year for a budget DX 10 card...I really regret having upgraded now. Oh well, I suppose this'll have to hold me over until next year; I'm curious as to how well Crysis will run on this card with some decent eye candy turned on.

hard to say but by the time Crysis is released(delayed till late summer/fall of 07 I think) the first set of budget DX10 card should be around $150 new and even less used. Upgrading to 7900GS wasn't a bad move if you needed the upgrade now. The new cards are still 2-4 months off and will likely be over $200 on release date.

I just bought a x1800XT and don't regret buying it because I needed something more than a 7600GT now to play games like R6 Vegas,Neverwinter Nights 2,ect. I have no intentions of upgrading till at least Crysis/UT2007 is released.

If you have followed Nvidia, then their 8600GT will be about as fast as a 7900GTX.

6600GT was faster than 9800XT (ATI) was way faster than 5900 Ultra
7600GT is faster than 6800Ultra
.
.
8600GT is bound to be faster than the previous flagship card (7900GTX)

I have always bought a midrange cards only from Nvidia. :)

ATI's midrange always sucks hard till a rev or two (x800GTO, X1650XT) :(

Yeah, I have until March to decide whether I want to use this coupon for a free Vista upgrade, I'll just wait until they work the kinks out. Which, hopefully, will be in a few months...or years, depending on how well Microsoft keeps up with it.

Yeah, same here - had a 6600GT, and late last year(!!) got a 7900GS, which was cheaper than what I got the 6600GT for!

Nvidia always has a good value on midrange cards.

However, Newegg had the X1900GT for $149, slightly better performance than a 7900GS and it cost less. I picked up a couple for my son and daughter, they rock.
