They're in George, OMG. They'll freeze to death when it's 56!

Uh, it gets fairly cold in Georgia currently seeing lows in the mid 20's where I am and earlier in the week a low of 13. Perhaps not so much in Macon, but frequently below freezing. A stand alone house down there would lose heat quickly down there. Not justifying her actions, but yeah heat would probably necessary.

Many of you guys don't know how it really is and have never been out of a job. I was out of a job for about a year last year. Applied for jobs even as low as Del Taco and Carl's Jr which I was EXTREMELY overqualified for to hold me over until I got a real job, and never even got a call back or anything from them. It's still really difficult to get a job, especially a better job.

So she sells the TV and xbox...and in a few months (maybe less depending on their electric rates) she is back in the same position. Maybe they were gifts her family recieved a while back? Who knows. It is not a long term solution, so why bother. It isn't exactly like low-skill jobs are easy to come by these days. If that were different (such as say, 10-15yrs ago), I might feel differently.

I don't begrudge poor people having some entertainment, even if they are on the gov't dole. If life is all work and despair and nothing else, that makes for riots. C'mon rich people! Deploy your bread and circuses before its too late! The pitchforks will soon be ready!

When can I expect to receive a check from you, Mr. Generous?

Oh, you're generous with other peoples money, not your own. That's what I thought.

i love you butts all over the floor
:hmm:

The last company I worked for went bankrupt and my wife has lost her job 3 times in the last 3 years. I still have no sympathy for someone who has a big screen tv and xbox but can't pay her own bills

I have a 32" tube TV still!

Clearly you are doing it wrong then - personal responsibility is so last millennium

Poor woman. I guess we need more government assistance programs to help the truly unfortunate.

Don't pretend that u give a fvck. U created this thread so everyone can poke fun at her and blame her for her misfortune. I know your style of posting. Oh yes, I know.

Why yes, I do donate regularly to social services through the church outside of paying my taxes. Perhaps one day when you are unemployed and can't afford to heat your house you can apply for assistance without having to sell everything you've accumulated over the past ten years at the pawn shop. Fail.

Should there be programs to help the truly destitute? Yes?

If you have valuable possessions that could be sold to support yourself are you truly destitute? Hell no.

Things go wrong, you do everything you can to deal with it.

If losing my job meant I wouldn't be able to pay my heating bill, I probably wouldn't go out and buy a 55+ inch TV.

Poor people and people who don't know how to manage their money are two different things. I have sympathy for poor people.

I'm making a judgment call on a very small cross section of her room, but that looks like a poor persons dwelling to me, and not someone down on their luck. In other words, the TV looks out of place. It looks like a room full of nothing except a TV that's too much for the established income.

I have to agree with you, and it makes me think that the TV was probably an unwise purchase on their part. Unfortunately, many people at the low end of the income spectrum also have a tendency to make poor financial decisions with their limited cash. Rent to own places are one of the biggest examples of companies that take advantage of this.

Why should the fact shes black be an issue over the fact shes trying to scam the system?

Same reason everyone knew the race of the girls who beat the pregnant girl on the bus. Profiling works.

For the record and before you less of me than you already might, I have many close friends of all races. They are my friends because they work hard, are responsible, and treat others with the same respect they want want to receive.

It's not an "issue over the fact", just another situation that fits the cliche.🙄

That's one hell of a TV for a poor person.

But...but...it might be a gift!! She needs entertainment too! And the Xbox -- well, I'm sure it was a gift too! I think there was a little card attached to each that said "From: Uncle Sam." Her Uncle Sam is a nice guy! Yeah, that's the ticket! :awe:

No the problem is shes trying to scam the system, the fact shes black, white, yellow, or whatever is irrelevant.

Unless you dont think any white people do this?

Why should I have to wait until then? I need a bigger TV. Mine is only 37". I chose to pay my gas and electricity bills instead, and I could use a TV as large as hers. So pay up. I also accept Best Buy gift cards in $500 increments.

My sister and brother-in-law are the SAME fucking way as this lady appears to be.

My sister didn't work...my brother-in-law works as a welder...

They live at my dad's second home rent free and have to pay for basic necessities (heat, electric, food, car).

They don't save their money and what little they do have they piss away on stupid shit.

They have a big LCD tv, PS3, Wii, a shit ton of movies, games, dvd's, Blu-Rays...

When my niece was born they were on every assistance program that you could imagine... (Heat, Childcare, food assistance, insurance).

They knew how to work the system in order to be under what ever limits they needed to be under to get the money and they didn't feel one bit bad about it. The part that pissed me of the most is they would commonly ask my dad for money when shit went sideways for them.

They would orchestrate scenarios for x-mas and birthday presents for themselves and their kids where they would get each member of their side of the family to 'chip-in' on big ticket items so they wouldn't have to pay for them.

The best part is they would PISS and MOAN when things were not getting done fast enough for them (fixes to the house...or other demands) as if they were 'entitled' to them vs. just getting off there asses and doing it themselves.

People like my sister and brother-in-law don't take responsibility for things and that is what I personally think is the biggest problem.

Recently my sister FINALLY started to go to school for something...they got some assistance for that...go figure. Instead of using the money to pay for the schooling or to bills or to something worthwhile...they bought a pimped out laptop even though they have a desktop that is totally fine for their needs. Why? Because they could...

My brother-in-law will drop 50 dollars plus on PS3 games (because he makes the money in the house) but will piss and moan when something needs to be fixed on the 'free' house they are living in and demand my dad fixes it because it is 'his house'.

My dad is on dial up and lives about 200 feet from the other house...my sister has high speed DSL. I said it would be nice to run a CAT 5 cable over to the old man's house and split the cost of the high speed internet with him so he can actually do something on the internet vs. shitty dial up that he is on (a 'win - win' situation). They WOULD NOT do it. The reason you might ask? My brother-in-law said it would affect his PS3 gaming and give him lag...

So when I read stories like this I fail to have any sympathy for them. If they are TRULY hard up then yes they should bridge a gap with assistance but don't make it a live long fucking goal to depend on it for your way of life.

Her monthly bill for internet, cable and cell is probaby $200+.

Too many people want to buy these expensive products and services even when they can't afford them.

He wasn't giving a fvck. Learn sarcasm. Now, where is your check you're going to send her to help her on her heating bills?
