Their names are Solo, Deer, Leopard, Safe and Sing, and thousands of them are on a boat headed this way.

U.S. car buyers will soon have a new option: very-low-priced Chinese cars, trucks and SUVs.

Four Houston partners will be exclusive dealers for two major manufacturers of Chinese cars for the entire state of Texas, with the first dealership scheduled to open in the city this summer.

China Motors of Texas will import automobiles made by Geely and trucks and SUVs made by Great Wall, China's leading manufacturer of such vehicles.

Cars will sell in the range of $7,000 to $11,000.

The manufacturers and dealers are hoping Americans will embrace these new import brands like they did the Toyota ? as opposed to, say, the Yugo, a Yugoslavian import that came to the United States in 1985 with high hopes but flopped so badly it became the butt of jokes.

Auto industry observers say that any consumer love affair with these Chinese products will not develop overnight, no matter how good the vehicles are

It will be interesting to see if these turn out to be yugos....

I can't wait for the auto mag reviews, a la Yugo:

"If you have only $X,000 (price of a Yugo) to spend, we recommend you go buy a quality used car intstead."

The Geely Leopard is produced as the Beauty Leopard. This site has a bit of information and some small photos. There is a short review of the company on this site. I can't say I'm impressed with them.

All bikes are made in china. Can't win. Sure they still make some Cannondale and Trek frames here but all the money parts are from red china. Soon every car will be built in china. heard big 3 or 2 is building plants there now.

Hey, if they undercut the current competition, I'm all for it. Even if they are low quality there are a lot of poor people, especially hispanics and blacks who might be in the market for these things.

That is going to happen very quickly. They are already experiencing sh0ortages for fuel because they don't have enough filling stations to handle the demand. They are already seeing traffic jams and increases in traffic fatalities.

Have you seen the pickups and delivery vans? I'm sure these will be very big hits here.

$11,000, Goodbye GM, Ford and Dodge overnight.
