Budget Build: GTX 460 or Radeon 6670

Hey guys. Just curious on your thoughts for this dilemma of mine going on currently in my mind. I'm bouncing back and forth between getting the GTX 460 ti or the Radeon HD 6670 for my build. My CPU will be the i5 2500k.

So which of those two with an intel processor would run games better? My monitor will not be 1080p btw. I'll probably stay in the 1280 x 1024 or 1600x900 range.

Any thoughts would be very welcome.

Edit: Meant the 6770, not 6670.

Also just looked again at the 6770 and it seems it is a 2.1 x 16 card? Would this still work with 2.0 x 16 Mobo? I dont see an option on newegg to search for 2.1 x 16 intel mobo's.

Imo, it just depends what youre looking for.

6770 definitely is slower, but also uses significantly less power and should be somewhat cheaper. Although I have seen some gtx 460's for around $100 as well. GTX 460 requires 2 pcie power connectors compared to 6770 that uses 1. GTX 460 is definitely faster though.

Also, the whole pcie 2.0/2.1 thing, Im almost positive they are all backwards compatible. You dont need to worry about that.

It's not even close, especially if you consider overclocking of the GTX460. An overclocked 460 can surpass a GTX470 and is on the heels of an HD5870. It takes 2x HD6770s in CF to match a single HD5870. Even at stock speeds, the primary competitor of the GTX460 is the 6850. If the price is similar, GTX460 is the better choice for games.

Otherwise, see how expensive the HD6870 is. Right now, it's the best bang for the buck imo.

If you can snag one a factory OCed 800MHz Palit GTX 460 1GB for $140 like me (*smug*) its pretty much the best price/performance card ever by a large margin.

no its not. 4870 and gtx260 went for around that price a couple of years ago. at that time it was way more performance per dollar than what you get today. if anything its pretty sad that all you get is about 35-40% more performance for the same price as 2 years ago. and there are probably even better examples than that at various times over the years. but yeah for right now its about as good as get except for a few 6850 and 6870 deals I have seen.

I used to own a gtx 460 1gb and it was much faster than my 5770 (ie 6770) and was almost equal in performance to my 6850.

Thanks for the info guys. Is there a reason besides overclocking for the difference on newegg in price for the 460? Some are 190 and some are 130-140.
