Budget box cpu question

OK, I'm thinking of building this unit. The guide recommends XP2500+ Barton. Now I have a XP1700 that I've had for about a year and never used. The markings are AXDA1700DLT3C and JIUHB0307VPMW. I'm trying to save money (obviously, its a budget box) but I dont mind spending the $86on the Barton if I'll actually see a difference. The rig will be shared by my wife and 17 yr old son. Neither does gaming, but my son likes to download music videos and watches them on the puter. I don't plan on doing any oc.

if your not going to do any thing other than what you do now don't do it.

If your pc struggles to do what you use it for then do it because the barton cpu is pretty decent, and look on the forums you can get an unlocked on that'll run 2.2ghz easily.

Either I'm not understanding you or you're not understanding me.

I'm not upgrading my rig. I'm building a new rig for my wife and son.

I don't see why the XP1700 wouldn't be fine.

that 1700 should hit over 2GHz.
