(my current one is actually more powerful than the one he is currently using, as-is) and upgrade the Dell to something like an E5700 (Pentium Dual Core @3.00Ghz) for like $79.99 at Newegg. Would that be a good upgrade from the current E2160 (1.8Ghz)? Also it's already got like 4GB of RAM so if I get Windows 7 for it, it'll be good to go, at least for another year or two. What do ya'll think?

not only is it not a good upgrade, the newer processor isn't likely supported. That mobo will likely require a $200+ Processor, which is just retarded...

Hi David, thanks for replying. From what I understand in the Dell forums, it actually is supported. Also, while looking at the CPU on NewEgg I came across this post in the feedback section (it's like the third comment): Pros: Works as replacement for 65nm Conroe E2160 @ 1.80GHz with 1MB L2 in a Dell Inspiron 530S with a Foxconn G33M02 Rev A01 Motherboard and BIOS version 1.0.15. BIOS and Windows recognize 3GHz clock and 2MB cache. That is my exact PC! So, considering that, do you still believe it would be a bad upgrade?

Hehe, it might be if I could overclock. However, the Dell systems have that locked down so I basically need to purchase as much Ghz as I can. Thanks for the linky tho! 🙂

60% more money for 10% more GHz on a dead platform?

That $30 is 27% of the way to a SSD.
