Per the title, I'm looking into budget DX9 AGP solutions - seems like the radeon 9800 pro/NP would be a pretty solid choice, based on what I've seen in FS/FT (pretty nice prices). what do you guys think? it doesn't necessarily have to have SM3 support (though that's a bonus) but my budget is $40-50, so it can't be anything too fancy.

thanks,

For that price you should be able to snag a 6600GT which would be a bit faster & run cooler, however the 9800 Pro isn't a bad choice either.

spend the extra money and get an x800pro for under a hundred bucks. it is over triple the performance an a 9800XT, and will rip apart any 6600 card. you suggested 50 bucks, spend another 30 bucks for an 80 dollar x800pro on the FS/TR while it's still available. it's also AGP by the way.

Both 9800pro and 6600gt are good budget cards. SM3 doesnt matter for those cards either; at least not if you dont want a slideshow.

I loved my 6600GT when I had it and it really was a great value. If I were you, I'd try to find one of those.

There was a guy on FS/FT who wanted to sell me his Leadtek 6600GT for $59 shipped last week & I would have bought it but I didn't notice his PM until after I snagged one from Newegg for $99... I'll PM you the rest of the info.

you could always go for the good ole 9700 pro....plenty of em about and they still do a good job...even in Quake 4 and F.E.A.R....abeit at lower detail settings...but both my P4 3.4ghz and AXP 3000+@2.33ghz can run both games at 1024x768 with low detail settings quite nicely.
