Im looking for the price/performance Flat Panel Monitor.

Im from the UK so I dont know if they are in mainstream sale over here. Just wanting model names to see if I can find them.

Most of my time is spent on Games, usually FPS'es so the Response Rate matters a lot. If the monitor does 1024*768 @ 85hz, Im happy. I prefer or at least my bank balance prefers a 15" but Id plump for a 17" if its reasonably priced.

Can someone pop a few links to some monitors in the US? I might visit or find a way to get it shipped over for cheaper than Id get one in the UK.

If you're that concerned about response time, and you're short on cash, is there some other reason you're so gung-ho about an LCD monitor? A good 19" CRT (larger, higher-res, no response time issues) could be had for about half the price of a good 17" 16ms LCD.

this is a question I've wanted to ask also, glad someone beat me to it. The reason I am interested in a smaller good response LCD is for lan parties. I don't want to lug around a CRT, especially not my 21". This would solve the problem of portability.

Well, I dont do LAN Parties anymore but being a student, I dont exactly have much space in my room. 17" CRT is at least 1 foot deep and unfortunately, i sit a max of 2 foot from my monitor so I cant spend too long on it either. Can be a pain when Im really going well with an essay or project.

You want response time to be as low as possible. The higher it is, the more blur there will be with full motion video and games.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll have much luck finding a good, cheap LCD with sub-20ms response time, especially if you want DVI input. The problem is that only Hyundai and AU Optronics offer panels right now that have a fast response time, and only in the 17" size. There are cheaper ones available (especially in 15"), but they'll only have a 25ms (or worse) response time.

Thanks for the information. Not what I wanted to hear but hehe, gives me longer to save I suppose :)

If anyone else has any other ideas, Id be happy to hear them.

BenQ has excellent priced 15" and 17" LCD flat panels that run at 16ms. Only thing is well.. it's a BenQ (what brand is that?) and it doesn't have DVI input and availability in the UK is another question. They can be found here in Canada at a fairly low price. 17" for about $520 CDN and 15" for $380. Check them out.

Try www.overclockers.co.uk
If you can stretch, the Hitachi CML174SXW/WB is an excellent choice. Its about £330 i think.

Whoops -- hadn't seen that BenQ monitor in 15" before. Does anyone know what panel it's using? I can't find much information on it.

Newegg has that for $265, so it may be a good choice as long as it doesn't suck. :p

Try this. Should work.... Dabs.com give good info on some products and most LCD's seem to have healthy amounts of info.

That doesn't offer any more information than the other sites I found -- just the specs and some press copy. I couldn't find any enthusiast site reviews of this monitor, so maybe it's new? All the other 16ms screens I've seen have used one of the two 17" panels I mentioned above, so I don't know what's up with this one. If you do get it, please post and let us know how it turns out. :)

Heh. Do I look like a pioneer? I get some poor soul to buy one then see what its like :p

They are quite expensive as well so I might have to pass this time. Printers are more important at the moment.

Newegg does have a *couple* of reviews on it (including one posted this week), and they're all positive. Web searches turned up a handful more, also all positive, but not enough to really say anything definitive about it. It just doesn't seem to be a big seller -- it's been out apparently for most of this year. I still can't figure out who makes the panel for this monitor, or if it is in any other products at the moment.

If it's as good as the specs say it is, then $265-$300 isn't a bad price for a 15" 16ms LCD display -- the 17" ones are running between $400 and $450.
