Chinese knockoffs, really. I can't imagine it's easy to screw up circular magnetic balls, and for the price, it doesn't hurt to check. It seems like you get more than what you would with the "official" Bucky Balls.

Edit: The shortened link is to focalprice. I'm not sure why, but the URL in its' original format kept getting broken when pasted here.

They've been on woot.com frequently over the last couple months for that price ($29.95 for two packs). I'd go for that over actual knockoffs, but it is a competitive price.

You get what you pay for with these. They are a hit with the guys in my office and some have purchased Bucky Balls, some Zen Balls and others the cheap knock offs. If you are only going to play with them for a week it doesn't matter but at about 2 - 3 weeks the knockoff's plating started flaking off. They still work ok but they look pretty rough. Also they seem to not be quite as consistent in size/power so the bigger and more complex shapes you try to do the harder it is with the knockoffs.

im sure the plating on the knockoffs is made of lead and will somehow kill your whole family or something.

I've seen them there numerous times, so it is likely. After all, Woot! recycles. How many times did Roombas and Leakfrogs come back?

Was there a diff between the Bucky Balls and the Zen?

Be aware that these should be kept far, far away from children. Swallowing a single magnet is perfectly safe. Swallowing two magnets can be fatal. They'll find each other, pinching your intestines shut.

(Not threadcrapping: this is a great toy, just not for kids.)

Thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't thought of that. I don't have kids, but the same would apply to animals.

The Silver version is only $12.99

Tried putting link, didn't work. Shouldn't be too hard to find them on the site
