Buckethead is awesome

I've heard him in various collaborations and always wanted to get some live stuff from him. So after probably 2 years of wanting to get live stuff, I did. I got his show from July 5, 2008 and all I have to say is wow.

If you like guitar, check this guy out!

LOL, I came in here expecting to see a thread about the radio talk show guy here in Orlando called Buckethead. Never heard of the guitarist.

I got into him around around 2000. The albums, "Welcome to Buckethead Land" and "Cobra Strike" were played to no end.

he's great but alot of his albums are just blah. like Colma is all mellowed out music, and some stuff is just generic rock music.

yeah but he's got like a million albums

I've never heard a powerful, soaring, soulfully melodic guitar lick created by Buckethead. He's more flashy, fast playing with some effects thrown in. Nothing moving. He's more in the same area as Micheal Angelo. Can certainly play the hell out of the guitar, but lacks feeling.

exactly,
there are 1000's of bands out there with great guitar players, but they all wont get exposure, mainly because of the music they play, anythign remotely loud or heavy, typically will not get a crap load of exposure

Listen to Too Many Humans on Population Override.

BH pisses me off because he IS a good player but you'd never know since he's too busy trying to cram 400 notes into a measure. Live he was almost unlistenable, I had to leave early because it was just tedious to watch at that point. He has it in him to create awesome music and I'm not doubting his skill.. but it's just annoying when all you hear is shred.

That song I mentioned is proof that he has it in him to be a great songwriter, he just chooses fretboard wankery 90% of the time.

Yes he does. It's just made out of hair. 😀

I have one Buckethead song, the one w/ Azam Ali, Coma, I think. I'm still thinking about getting more but haven't yet. I'll have to go listen some more.

I enjoy his compositions and the liver recordings I do have tend to be awesome so long as it is a good recording.
