Every time I go to play UT2k4 (which I recently installed after a long year of not playing it), and sometimes during gameplay but most of the time after I exit the game, I get a blue screen that says "IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS_THAN," then some filler in the middle, and at the bottom it says like "proceeding to dump memory...memory dump successful." I don't know what this means, but it stays like that and I have to hard boot my computer. I ran Prime for about 4 hours but it blew threw that, so I dunno what the problem is. Any help? Thanks.

I just was having that same problem when I did a new build about a week ago. I got that same error many times just after installing windows and trying to update it...I switched out the memory and haven't had a problem since. THe memory wasn't bad as it turns out...it runs fine in MY system. It was just a compatibility issue.

Hmm that's strange...I'll keep that in mind next time I see the screen, I've only seen it twice so far. What was the issue, compatibility with your motherboard?

As far as I can tell it was compatibility with the motherboard for the build I was working on (Shuttle ST62KS case/mobo). I got all the crazy errors and eventually narrowed it down to a possible RAM problem (by seeing what other people with this error tried) and switched the ram I was using (Samsung PC3200 512MB) with a stick of Kingston VR from my rig and stuck the Samsung in mine. Neither system has had a problem since then.

It's possible it's a RAM issue, but it also sounds suspiciously like the A64 + DEP + UT engines bug that causes BSODs every time you exit or alt-tab out of any UT engine game.

Are you using the latest nVidia drivers? 71.84 or higher?

If not, remove the old one, & update to the 71.84s (or newer leaked ones if you want), & see what happens.

You can always try disabling DEP too & seeing if that stops the BSODs.

Haha, funny because I forgot to mention that the first time it appeared was when I Alt-tabbed and tried to load the game back up. I just updated my nVidia drivers to 71.84, haven't tried UT yet. And what's DEP?

big chance its the drivers, BUT updating to the newest does not always solve everything or make your system run smooth, check out guru3d.com and the beta drivers, there are alot in between the months nvidia releases their official ones. i had probs with 66.93 and 71.84, on 76.10 now and still a few flakes here and there. drivers are big, hard to find ones that play nice

Okay, since i have answered this question so many times in the past, i'm just copying the text explaining some stuff.

nVidia's 71.84 + drivers have seemingly finally fixed the issue, so i would just try them out.

If that doesn't fix things, read below.

(Copied & pasted from previous posts)

Ah, the joys of Nvidia's drivers...okay here's what is going wrong.

With SP2 came the wondrous DEP, & unfortunately, the newer versions of Nvidia's drivers have major issues with DEP & A64s & UT2k4...& then you get those nice BSODs (Blue Screen of Death).

There are a couple ways to work around this.

You can either disable DEP entirely, or use older Nvidia drivers.
For some reason, if i understand right, disabling DEP just for UT2k4 does not always work.

However, i would still try it first.

Go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > settings button under Performance > Data Execution Prevention tab > select "Turn on DEP for all programs & services except those I select" > now add UT2004.exe (from your UT2004 folder) to the list.

Now that may not work.

If it doesn't, you can turn off DEP for everything.

Go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > settings button under Startup & Recovery > select Edit, & you will be in your boot.ini file.

It should look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

On that bottom line, remove the noexecute & replace it with execute
Make sure you save.

Well I just played about 2 hours of UT2k4 (after the new 71.84 drivers) and no BSOD. If there are any more I'll let you guys know.
