BSOD when installing i recently have been working with my HP pavilion a510n which has had some problems.

it was restarting alot and wouldnt let me boot windows. and wasnt recognizing the hard drive correctly when trying to install XP.

so i formatted and installled with Windows 98. and updated the bios

now im using the Windows XP disk to install from, and booting straight from the disk. (since it really wasnt working to install with 98 running, it froze and wouldnt load, im assuming my pc isnt made for 98) and im getting a BSOD message.

at the top under the "A problem has been detected...." message it says this

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and under Technical information it says

*** stop 0x000000D1 (0x06D10F5D8, 0x00000002, 0x000000001, 0xF73A47DE)

*** USBPORT.SYS - Address F73A47DE base at F7389000, DateStamp 480254ce

Thankyou to anyone who can help!

this screen comes up when it says its attempting to copy the files over.

My advice is to wipe the HDD and reinstall the OS using the HP restoration disks for your particular model computer.

i installed from windows 98 as a clean install and it worked. it didnt wipe the disk first. but i had just reinstalled 98 and it cleaned the disk completely so it probably helped
