I just built a new pc and popped in a 250gb seagate sata hdd i had laying around. It passes the windows load up screen and gives me bsod. I have since then formatted it 3 times and now it gets through the first parts of xp installation and gives me bsod again.

I threw in another hdd which already had a working OS and it booted up just fine.
Is the other one dead? I cant seem to get around this problem all night.

Burn a DFT (drive fitness test) disc or one of the drive tests and run the diagnostic. That should tell you if its any good.

It passes all tests and memory isnt bad. I finally got windows installed somehow and it logs fully into windows, then in about 15 secs. the computer immediately restarts itself and keeps doing the same thing over and over.I think there might be a problem with the xp cd. I will try another tonight and hopefully it all works out.
