Pretty good although little things bother me, like why they cant have normal rectangular paper and the fact that they have an EXPO dry erase board in this universe. The word frack is pretty annoying as well

If you haven't noticed...BSG is not THAT technically more advanced than we are right now.

Save for the FTL drives, the technology level is not that advanced. They use nukes for ship-to-ship fighting and projectile weapons mainly. There's no real shields per se.

What I'm saying is that while they have developed a lot more space-faring technology - the rest has lagged.

Weapons have lagged behind.

Still using nukes.

Weapons on the Vipers are pretty much gattling guns.

Oh yeha, that didn't bother me, i actualy liked the fact that the technology is more believable. I just had the damn paper thing

Yeah I agree it makes it more believable.

I don't get the paper thing, but it doesn't annoy me really.

Agree. They are like us just maybe 300 years ahead, very realistic. Its funny how the Vipers use high pressure air to move around and tilt.

why is it funny they use High air pressure to move?

Its just different, but still realistic because that's how our shuttles move and space station etc. But other SCI-FI shows don't seem to use that.

The RCS on the shuttle use nitrogen tetroxide and monomethyl hydrazine to produce thrust, not compressed air.

I didnt start watching BSG until recently, saw bits of it here and there and wasn't the least bit interested in it.

started watching the thing from serious 1 ep 1 in sequence, and it rocks!!! can't wait for the next ep, would be sweet to see another BS in the fleet.... hopefully the pegasus will remain next ep.

This is the best series on TV right now (imho of course) and I hope it has a long run.

It is awesome to see the tension and drama continue from show to show, maybe "Lost" is the only other show that can immerse you in drama and emotion. At first I was skeptical of the acting, but the actors/actresses on the show (except maybe the asian cylon) have really improved as the series goes on.

BSG! What do you guys think?

I think I'd get it on with Boomer too even if she were a Cylon intent on destroying the human race. ;)

We can probably expect the second half to be called 2.5....

I really like BSG.. but I also like Star Trek..

It annoys me how people act like BSG can replace Star Trek and satisfy all the sci-fi needs of a sci-fi fanatic with one show. I don't see why the fvck I should be stuck with just BSG and not have my fill of Star Trek too.

IMO, all this bad-mouthing Star Trek just because one likes BSG better puts down the genre as a whole and paves the way for more television filth... reality tv, crappy sitcoms, more and more police/law drama, etc.

I love BSG.. but if I had to choose between Enterprise and BSG, I would pick Enterprise.. OMG Sacrilage for BSG fans?!!?! But, there's a lot of Star Trek fans that feel the same way I do. It's tough to part with an entire sci fi universe.. That doesn't mean I want BSG to fail.

The paper thing is because that's how they did it in the original BattleStar Galactica.

To whoever said they do it with Boomer has obviously not seen the original series.

I was sceptical of it because I did enjoy the original series greatly, but this new series is really good, except in the original they did have blasters and didn't use bullets. That's my main gripe.
Realistically, if you develop space craft they have to be able to with stand impacts from small debris that are traveling at 10's or thousands of miles per hour. Much faster than the bullets seem to move in the show. I guess I have another gripe with it. The use of real items is pretty bad in the show, I mean, military Hummers the weapons are current weapons. One of the guns is a Berretta NEOS target pistol. Which is a fraking .22.

Everything except "frak" is great on that show. Frak sounds stupid. I don't care if the word was used in the original BSG. It sounds stupid now, and it probably sounded stupid then.

did they use Frak in the original one? I thought it was a new thing for this version.

I like the paper thing and "frack" -- it reminds the audience that these people aren't from Earth.

And, specifically about the swearing thing, sci fi shows have four options when it comes to swearing: eliminate it entirely (like in the Star Trek series; this results in some dialogue sounding unnatural), bleep it out (never done in a sci fi series, AFAIK), do it in a foreign language (e.g. Chinese swearing on Firefly), or make up words for it ("frell" on Farscape, "smeg" on Red Dwarf). The latter two result in the best sounding (i.e. realistic) dialogue, IMHO... and for obvious reasons swearing in Chinese wouldn't make a heck of a lot of sense on BSG. And if they swore in Greek it would create a minor continuity problem (why don't they speak Greek all the time?).

Yeah, they used "frack" in the original series. Interesting bit of trivia: In the original series scripts, it was spelled "frack," in the 2003 reboot it's spelled "frak."

From IMDB trivia:

Paper in the series have corners cut off. It is said that director 'Michael Rymer' did this during the miniseries as a reference to how he had to "cut corners" financially to make the miniseries work on a limited budget.

Usually cable shows has about 13 to 15 episodes. Compared to regular TV stations they have about 22 to 25 episodes. Since it was a good hit with the first season they sci-fi channel order more episodes. 20. So, cable shows almost never have repeats during the week except for a couple or so they have to drag it out. Unlike regular TV stations, they have more repeats. Plus during the holiday season not many peeps watches tv. And BSG starts during the early fall.

Obviously you dont know nothing. Even though there is no sound in space they have to make it for tv or else it would jsut be silent and boring. But BSG doesn't do a lot of it. So, actually it's more realistic then peeps think.

Actually, silence on the space scenes can work without inducing boredom... it worked well in Firefly, PlanetES, and 2001. It's just a style choice.

This is my favorite show. I don't mind them using frak. Remember the original when they used centon and yaron? I am glad they left that out in the new one.
