anything for BSD exist that functions similarly to Linux-HA (high avail)'s Heartbeat? i like the idea of the 2 servers pinging each other across a serial null modem cable instead of ethernet.
 
You may be able to port some of the Linux-HA stuff over. If not, a cron job, a PPP link between boxes, and some shell scripts, and you've got it.
