I was raised to floss after brushing but I changed in my twenties because to me it was more logical to floss first since I might dislodge food which I wouldn't want to hit my already cleaned teeth.

It's the 21st century. Personally I go with:

1. Stick of gum
2. Dentist for fake teeth on the cheap
3. Profit!

The best answer is not in the poll. So, I am not voting.

The best route is to floss during the brushing. Get fluoride toothpaste on your teeth, then floss that fluoride toothpaste into the crevices between your teeth. That way you actually get the fluoride everywhere. Then finish with the brushing (i.e. spit out the toothpaste).

By the way, the ADA says that either way works as long as you actually brush and floss. http://www.ada.org/en/science-resea...ormation/floss-and-other-interdental-cleaners
"Should I brush or floss first?
Either way is acceptable as long as you do a thorough job."

But then the ADA leans towards flossing first, "However, if you use dental floss before you brush, the fluoride from the toothpaste has a better chance of reaching between teeth." But do note that the ADA provides no actual study data to back up their leanings.

Brush first, it gets the worst out, then floss, then mouth wash if I dislodged anything that remained.

I really need to floss more often though, I tend to just brush then mouthwash. Flossing is so tedius. Even with the floss sticks it's still tricky getting to the back teeth.

If you floss before brushing, you are pushing tons more plaque into your gums.

The whole reason of flossing is to get to areas that brushing cannot touch, so don't see how brushing gets rid of plaque that would have been pushed into the gums through flossing.

1. Rinse well
2. Floss
3. Rinse well
4. Brush
5. Optional: mouthwash.

I use the "flossers" during hte day. I drink about 60-100 oz of water each day and often rinse with it.

Floss then rinse and then brush.

I rinse after flossing to remove any loose material and you are not supposed to rinse right after brushing obviously.

By rinsing your mouth right after brushing you are not doing it right. 🙁

I only do mouth wash in the morning then rinse after as it is a strong taste not to mention to be able to get what you loosened out of your mouth then I brush.

I hear ya newbian, but I have a hard time leaving toothpaste all up in my grill.

I lightly rinse after brushing, and mouthwash. I CAN'T HANDLE THE TOOF....paste.

Why do they brush your teeth first and then floss you at the dentist then?

My dental hygienist does this:

1. Rinse
2. Scrape
3. Floss
4. Brush
5. Rinse
6. that nasty flouride stuff they paint on at the end.

You know, if it gets the job done then whatever. The important thing is to stay adamant, don't just do it like a zombie.

1) Floss
2) Rinse with Listerine
3) Leaving Listerine in mouth, either brush or Sonicare, so both the Listerine and toothpaste are working at the same time
4) Rinse with water
