Brrr. This is one cold USA!

I remember having school cancelled once because of extreme cold in the early 90s; kind of a similar situation, windchills of -50F to -60F.

The problem is the kids that ride the bus to school. When it's that cold, you can get frostbite on any exposed skin within a matter of minutes. In those conditions, having kids waiting at a bus stop, or walking would be disastrous.

I don't have a car anymore but I used to have one with remote start. It was worth it's weight in gold on super cold days like this.

Meh, I ran outside into about 6 inches of snow in shorts, sandals, and winter coat with my 2nd set of keys to start my car. It really wasn't that bad, just don't be a wuss.

so what did the dude who drove away in your car looks like? 🙂

heh... he said 2nd pair of keys though assuming he locked it in there and kept his first pair to open it.

And closing school for the cold? Wow I never heard of that but frankly if its -50... I probably would keep my kid home too.

brick > window 🙂. Usually the back corner one gets broken and they reach in to open rear door, then front and off they go.

Wait until Friday. if Ohio is supposed to be single digits I can imagine how cold everywhere else will be.

Global warming.....?

I love having a garage... I turned on the car - it said 30F... driving out to the train station I watched that number drop to 19F. All those suckers out there who have to scrape frost off their windshields at 630am everyday... you are not the subject of envy. Weather.com says 18F, feels like 2F.

I get angry when people scraping off their cars wake me up. Of course it could be worse. I could be the one out there.

Just heard on the radio that local schools are starting to cancel classes for tomorrow; they're calling for possible windchills of -50F.

Closing schools due to cold? I've never seen or heard anything like that.

It's not bad here. Tomorrow the temperature is supposed to range from -17 deg F to a high around -1 deg F with "wind chills" around -35 deg F. Anyhow, Tomorrow I will be sure to wear my jacket and gloves when I go outside. But I will not wear a hat, I reserve the hat only for when it gets truly cold out.

No sled here on the far Wet Coast, it is currently 6C or 43F.

snowmobiles are referred to as sleds too... and they move just fine on pavement. I actually saw someone gun by my house and I was laughing my head off. I am pretty sure it was not legal. I live in the city, I have never seen snowmobile running on a major road before.

Last weekend On Saturday (we got about 7 or 8 inches of snow on Sat AM), I saw a guy on a sled riding down main street. First time ever I'd seen a guy snowmobiling downtown. (note, downtown is approx 2-3 block stretch of main street)

Anyhow, driving sucked on Saturday in my car, on a sled I could have gone much much faster ....

Bitterly cold. Quite windy. Some evening flurries with clearing conditions expected after midnight. Dangerous wind chills approaching -30F. Low -13F. Winds NW at 20 to 30 mph.

Great. Work will be fun tonight.

Was -38 this morning. THATs cold. Though it's weird as I remember when I was in high school we got a week of -50ish (with windchill, but it was rather calm out) and it did not feel as cold as today.

I started my car but it stalled in the driveway and the battery died as it was still in on position. Took a taxi. I wont bother even trying to start it as it will only hurt the motor and battery so I'll take a taxi tomorrow as well then hopefully sometimes this weekend I can get it going with a boost.

Take a look at it tomorrow. I live in northern Texas, and it was high 50's here today. Tonight the front moves through, and tomorrow's high will be maybe 30-ish. Yeah, 1/2 of today's high.

Just wish you guys would keep winter up north, where it belongs!!!

+50's? That's summer dude. That comes up to 10C if I'm not [well google] mistaken. Try -50 😛 While rare, I have seen it here.

I just feel sorry for any homeless people/animals right now. Like stray cats, this has got to be extremely hard on them. Their ears and tail get dangerously frozen.

Um..

I'm sorry, but calling a snow mobile a "sled" is effing retarded.

I probably should have warmed up my car a bit more yesterday morning. Not as bad today, but I warmed it up nonetheless. At least the steering was responding 🙂

Snowmobile is one word. I did not make it up, people who ride them often refer to them as sleds.

it was pretty brutal here last night with -25°C.

its now -13°C and partly sunny. Snow is supposed to move in on Saturday.

It's only -19C (feels like -29C) here in Guelph. I'm glad I'm not at my parent's house right now where it's -36C.
