early on, you can't store the energy right? so early on, you should always be running in the red energy wise 2 or 3 yes?

Running in the red in terms of energy is bad; it means that you're using more energy than you're making;your buildings will not run at 100% efficiency, and the end result is that you're not producing as much as you could be. Your energy should always be in the green, or at the very least breaking even.

ah, that might be why harvesting metal is so slow. i'm at -48 at the moment heh

Is there any way to harvest faster? After every upgrade, it seems I have to wait forever before I can do anything else. My power is always in the green. Is this game just a slow moving game?

It starts off pretty slow. Having a fleet or 5 does speed things up a bit, resource wise, you'll find you can't spend it quickly enough (although how that can be a problem, just build another 25 small lasers and light fighters or something)

w00t more members! I reckon we'll be the biggest alliance in universe13 in a couple of days. I'll update the OP with our standings in other fields other than just points. BUMP

so there's actual battles and such? at first, I thought this was like outwar.

Well, you build your fleet, send it off to attack other planets etc. There isn't any sort of, real time control of the fleet or graphics or anything though It's a bit slow paced due to the sheer distances involved, but can get quite busy when you have lots of fleets going around everywhere. (apparently 😉 )

Here are my stats

M8, K6, D4, S8
Robotics 1, Resarch 1----> nothing researched yet

Any advice on what steps to take now in terms of buildings or research? . I am currently runnin very low on resources

More M and K, at least 2 more levels, then start concentrating on building some cargo ships for raiding. Then use esprep to find a planet with no defense that someone has already scanned and plunder for a few days, spend the loot on more research. At least that's what I have been doing.

Or you could start concentrating on cargo ships now and just start raiding.

D is important for research but I've found that my raiding fleets come back with too much of it as it is.

is the "overview" section on esprep where i find a near planet that someone else has successfully raided.... (that esprep site is a bit confusing/retarted)

Yup. Find a nice fat planet with a inactive player and high building levels (for fast replenishing) and you can get rich easily.

Anyone out there wanna send some excess supplies to an AT ally (im not even sure if its possible) to help me get my buildings started and start some research???
