I've had two run ins with Recluses. One my buddy had a pretty big hole taken out of his arm after he rolled over on the thing in his sleep. In another case we had a minor wolf spider and brown recluse infestation in our apt complex and a few people got bitten by the brown recluses and had to go to the hospital.

Whether most cases are minor (and who knows about those) it's these that make them worth watching out for.

Ahh I am shadowing a family practice doc, we just had a brown recluse bite come in. The guy didn't get treated for four days. Actually he did, but he went to the ER but was too broke to buy the medication. There was a big pus filled sac about the size of a dime w/ a nice juicy necrotized center and pain all down his neck. The he shook w/ pain even after pumping it w/ lidocaine during the culture of it.

uggh... BR spiders are pretty much the only poisonous things you find in Alaska. You come across the occasional black widow that stows away but other than that...

Nine times out of ten, a brown recluse bite won't come across as anything worse than a mosquito bite that takes a little longer to heal in a healthy person. Stop picking on the brown recluse and go kill some snakes (they're all evil poisonous creatures that shouldn't be allowed to share this earth with us).

A brown recluse bite is much more serious than a mosquito bite. Mosquito bites don't require medication to prevent the person from becoming seriously ill.

My sister was bitten by a brown recluse two weeks ago. She was very sick for three days. She did go to the hospital and received some strong antiobiotics after the first night.

A healthy friend of mine had a fscking hole in his leg a few weeks ago thanks to a brown recluse.

Weirdly enough both my Father and Aunt have been bitten by Brown Recluse Spiders and both bites ended up being serious. The spiders are not native to my area so the doctors did not even recognize it as a spider bite.
