Funny thing is my brother did that and the spider wasnt so dead. Crawled up and bit him in the ass when he was on da poopa.

Are you sure it' wasn't the spider's brother defending his family's honor?

We've got some crazy nasty creepy crawlies in The Keys where my folks live. The black scorpions down there will mess you up, and they're everywhere! As for the Brown Recluse, when I was in 10th grade a neighborhood kid got bit on the ankle onetime while he was walking through some saw grass to fetch a football. This guys leg turned black and purple, doubled in size, and then ruptured from his ankle to his knee. Scariest thing I've ever seen.

Fear the recluse!

Out of all the poisonous things in the USA, one should fear the snakes (i.e. rattlesnakes) and Brown Recluse spiders the most. Their venom is designed to substantially eat away at the flesh. Amputated limbs and fingers are common with rattlesnake bites.

Scorpion or Black Widow venom will just make your muscles cramp. Pain sensitive people can get some short-term hurt put into them.

Yup, the only spiders to really, fear in N/S America are the Brown Recluse and Banana Spider of Brazil (which can kill).

Austalia also has some nasty spiders and creatures by the truckload.............We in N. America have it pretty easy vs. Australia. :)

Banana spider

I hate spiders!

My sentiments exactly.....

Short-sighted attitude. For the most part spiders are harmless and beneficial. They do more to control the insect population than all the DDT and Raid ever produced. Without spiders we'd be overrun by other bugs.

That being said, the Brown Recluse is the only creature in the US that bothers me. No fear of gators, cougars, scorpions, black widows or venomous snakes, but I've seen the effects of a brown recluse bite and it's something I would not wish upon my worst enemy.

Dude...he never said that spiders didn't play an important role in the ecosystem, ok? Chill. We just don't like them invading our personal space.

You don't get it both ways. A spider is not going to grasp the concept of your personal space nor is it going to understand phobias based on ignorance. Spiders are an absolutely essential part of the overall welfare of humans by controlling the population of insects that could be dangerous. We need them and the relationship does not work if they're all congregated in jungles, forests and other uninhabited areas. The ones that are doing the most for mankind are the ones that live closest to mankind. Instead of shrieking like a little girl and running for a magazine to squish it with, try learning a little bit about spiders. Then you won't have this irrational fear of them invading your personal space.

That's an official banana spider, but it's not the one to be afraid of. The dangerous "banana spider" is actually the Brazilian Wandering Spider. It's called a banana spider because it's often found living in banana trees, but it's a completely different creature. The link you have there is to the official one, it's a docile web builder that is only dangerous to those allergic to it's fairly weak venom. The Brazilain Wandering Spider is a predatory, hunting spider that doesn't build webs to catch food, it ambushes it's prey. It's fast, agressive, highly venomous and very dangerous.

I've killed 3 black widows at my house so far.
Although uncommon, their bites can be deadly.
We've got rattlesnakes and cougars here too.
Not sure about BR's.

i remember i was at my desk and i saw one walk in going for my 3 yr old son. so i picked him up and it scurried away beneath my chair waiting. i felt like a hunter in the darkness coming after this thing. i had no idea what it was only that it was farking huge and had farking huge fangs. most of it all it was cunning.

so what i did was i got some tupperware. caught it and sealed it in. then stared at it as it tried to attack me repeatedly. so i shook the tupperware violently a few times to my own delight and thought of an evil demise for my foe.

i stuck it in the microwave and 1 minute later dead BRS. it popped like popcorn. quite fun.

i only leave daddy longlegs alone.

brown recluse? dangerous sh*t!!

ive heard the daddy long lgs spiders have the most toxic venom..bu their tiny fangs cannot penetrate our skin

That's actually a load of BS. In order to determine the venom's toxicity they would have to have someone who was exposed to it in their bloodstream. Since the spider's fangs are too small to get it to our blood, the only way to test it would be to extract and manually inject it into a person. As this is not really legal/ethical, it hasn't been done, and no one can really say if it's toxic to humans.

All you really got out of it was a dirty plastic container.
