Brown Recluse found here at work

We just found and killed a brown recluse that crawled out of a box of shipped in power supplies. I live in Michigan, so these buggers are pretty rare, and cause quite the scare when they do appear here. This is the second southern spider we have imported this year. A month ago we found a huge huntsman. This thing could have wrapped his legs around a pop can. We didnt kill it though, since they are pretty harmless.

I guess even spiders like to travel... :)

Visit my mom in AR.

I find tons of recluse if I go looking for them, the scorpions are a bit more rare but not unseen, and that's inside the house :) Outside there's the snakes, ticks and chiggers, not to mention poachers to keep you on the trails when you're walking in the woods.

I see between 2-3 scorpions a week inside my parent's house in El Paso. The vary in size quite a bit, mostly between .5-3 inches long.

Luckily I don't have the BRS in my new home, but I was infested with the damn things in my previous. I actually like spiders, and I'll go out of my way to make sure they're not harmed if I find them in my home; however, the BRS threatens my safety, so they die.

The most interesting thing to me is that my cats would always circle around the BRS in their attack mode, but they would never actually attack it. I find that interesting because they attack just about everything else that moves. It seems like they had an intrinsic understanding of its insidiousness.

I found one in my living room this summer. Huge and quite upsetting, so I sprayed the hell out of the house with demon WP. Two packets worth.

I exterminated this one with the bottom of my dress shoe. Then proceeded to wipe if off on the seat of my boss' arm chair...

I don't think I could live anywhere with stuff like that is the norm, it would freak me out everyday by checking out every step I take.

While in the midst of moving my parents into one of their new houses about four years ago we saw Black Widow spiders all over the place. My father and I sprayed the house all over and vowed never to tell my mom about it :) Kinda creepy. I too won't intentionally kill spiders unless I don't know what they are and are running lose in my house because I don't want my kids bitten by one. I've heard of several people who have been.

We've got some crazy nasty creepy crawlies in The Keys where my folks live. The black scorpions down there will mess you up, and they're everywhere! As for the Brown Recluse, when I was in 10th grade a neighborhood kid got bit on the ankle onetime while he was walking through some saw grass to fetch a football. This guys leg turned black and purple, doubled in size, and then ruptured from his ankle to his knee. Scariest thing I've ever seen.

Fear the recluse!

That's the way it is when you're infested with them too. I would wake up sans contacts/glasses and completely miss some of them on the wall, floor, wherever. One time getting ready for work I saw what looked like a spec on the wall, so I thought I'd get closer to investigate; I did, and when I got too close the BRS showed his disinterest in me causing me to leap back and fall on my arse.

I fear.

I have a shipment of hardware coming in through the Bayou. In fact, it spent all day there yesterday. Since none of it is vitally important (Just some cases and some floppy drives and a keyboard) I'm going to have a fricking arsenal on hand in case I encounter anything. I have enough crawlies in the basement (Although my shoes and pocket knife are beginning to take their toll)

You sure those were BRS? I thought they liked to stay hidden.
