A photo student is continually harrassed by cops and agents for taking pics of the public landmark.

http://brownequalsterrorist.com/artiststatement/

I then saw a Seattle Police patrol vehicle driving on a nearby path, one that was inaccessible to the public, and parking in the hilltop parking lot. At that point, I knew what was coming. A few minutes later, I watched in dismay as eight men descended from the parking lot, down the hill, making a bee-line for me and my tripod.

One of the Seattle policemen, using his strongest, most authoritative voice, gripping his holstered sidearm, was now demanding to see my ID. I asked what this was about and why I had to show him my ID. ?Look, we can do this one of two ways. You show me your ID right now! I'm not kidding!? the cop yelled.

....

That?s when one of the three non-uniformed men stepped forward, brandishing his badge, and began talking at me with his own rendition of the voice of absolute authority.

?I?ve listened to this for over five minutes. Look here. You see this?? Special Agent McNamara said, producing his badge. ?This is a federal badge. We?re not with the rest of them. We?re federal agents from Homeland Security...?

Land of the free, only if you're white.

I should start taking pictures of things to see if I get harassed at all by the homeland security twits.

I had a similiar experience when I tried to take low-light pics of the Mountain View downtown station.

I was asked by the security to leave, citing blasts on Madrid railroad. Have to admit, I wasn't really harrassed: an indian guy who looked like a former software engineer, who lost his job and had to switch to night security, asked me to leave.

So, I walked away to the opposite site of the platform where the security was too lazy to walk to. But this pissed me off anyway, so the next morning I got on my phone and called all the VTA departments and demanded explanation. I finally received a call from the chief of security department saying they instructed the security not to harass photographers any more, and he is sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: forgot to add: I'm white

As far as I'm concerned, his college project about motion is complete. It's not about motorcycles or boats in motion though, it's about Government heavy handedness and abuse in motion. Granted, we're only hearing his side of the story, but I read nothing in this piece to convey anything other than the facts. Scary, scary indeed.

Nothing great about the guy who wanted to take pictures of the docks.
I get questioned and asked for ID's most of the times when I am out surveying near water bodies/ dams, once even on a busy street a city.
Oh yes, I forgot.. since I am brown-skinned, I am a threat.

Not true, dipsh!t. I'm caucasian and I got chased around by security after I was trying to take some pictures of an oil refinery.

This pisses me off, and I'm white. America after 9/11 has just gotten too paranoid and communist. Not because of any specific policy, but because people are just too willing to turn in their neighbors for perfectly normal activities.

If what he claims is true, then I hope the officers involved will have actions taken against them :|

I bet these folks would LOVE to spend a few days being as oppressed as Brown. No doubt you whiners would be the first to stomp and scream about "the government" not doing enough to prevent the next 9-11, if or when it happens.

I read a news report that stated that during the Democratic Convention in Boston they will be doing random searches of commuters on the subways. If this is true it is a truly sad thing to happen in a city that stood for liberty when this country was founded. I can only hope that the citizens there will not submit quietly to such treatment while going about their lawful business.

"train watchers" get called on all the time. Many are white. Its paranoia...the problem now is that people who look like a "terrorist" (someone with brown skin) are targeted more.

You're right - I'd be upset about the government chasing down kids in college working on photography assignments and harrassing people needlessly while they could be trying to find effective ways to try to make us more secure without turning this into a police state.

No doubt you'll be one of the first whiners to complain about how unsafe you are when the Patriot Act finally expires.

you've got to be the only person in the WORLD who thinks the Patriot Act actually makes you safer.
